    Ride from H@!!

last night I went for a ride with my newly fitted bike. (the stem had to be ordered so the handle bars were thrown back together by the shop). Luckily I was riding in the country with no trafic because here's what happened....

computer went on the blink - handle bars were put back on really cockeyed, so anytime picked up a hand I'd go vearing off in the oposite direction! Took me a while to figure out why!

couldn't get use to new cleat position so I was having a hard time getting clipped in! Got chased by a Saint Bernard - with only one foot clipped in!! Found out I can go pretty fast with only one foot, if I need to!!!

After the dog chasing - vearing all over the road - I decided I'd better call it a day so I went back to the friends house I'd been riding from. While I was gone her brother cut off 2 of his fingers using a saw (while building her shed) and was rushed to the hospital!!!

Good Grief Grasshopper – what an absolute nightmare!

Handle bars wonky, dodgy computer, shoe problems, and as if it couldn’t get any worse being chased by a dog, but not any dog, a great big Saint Bernard!

I must admit, by the time I read that bit I did have to chuckle. Poor Grasshopper, as if a ride could get any worse, you must have been well and truely p'd off by then.

As for your friend’s brother, is he ok? Poor guy- sounds horrific. I hope he's alright.

Dogs have always been my biggest fear in life. LOL I think something must have happened when I was little -- I do kind of remember a friend's St. Bernard getting after me when I was young. Anyway, luckily this hasn't happened to me yet. I always think I'll fall but I'll probably just pedal faster than I ever have in my life.

Sorry about your friend's brother! Hope he's okay.

It does sound like a day from h e double toothpicks! I hope your friend's brother is ok. As for dogs, I am very wary around them as one bit my hubby's ankle on a ride this spring! He came charging from out of know where at us and Joe got between the dog and me. So Joe got the brunt of the dog's attention and attack. Joe finally got off his bike and held his ground against it yelling the entire time for it to go home. It finally gave up and left. We walked up the road until we were out of sight and got back on our bikes. Joe's ankle was fine. Sock torn but ankle ok, thank God!

mightymire - He was in surgery until late last night and is doing well today. They reconnected his fingers and said that they won't know anything about usage for a while yet. He's pretty medicated still.

Susan - I can't believe the dog bit your husband!! I'm glad he stood his ground with him though! Maybe it scared the dog enough that he'll stop attacking riders!!

I'm glad Joe stood his ground, too. He was not afraid of the dog. He told me later that he was more concerned for my safety than his own. If I had been alone I would have been scared to death and the dog would have sensed that! Joe, on the other hand, showed no fear and stood his ground. I think that's why the dog backed down. He saw that Joe was not afraid of him. If it were me I would have been shaking in my cleated shoes! I hope you're right ... maybe the dog will not attack someone else after Joe stood up to it.

    Friend update...

I went to see Jimmy - friend that cut his fingers off - and he's doing GREAT! He has some feeling and is in therapy a lot with his hands. He has these rubberbands attached (with super glue) to his nails and he stretches his fingers out constantly (with his other hand). he thinks he has movement in them - I don't see it yet. But he's in great spirits and he's doing really really well.

Just wanted to you let you guys know.
