This almost sounds like a bruised rib.
Are you carrying a messenger bag that might put pressure on that area?
Maybe just pay attention to your posture

I am a commuter and just ride to get around town. I just started riding again after the long winter and when I ride I notice a horrible pain in the center of my chest the next morning. I get short of breath and have a hard time moving.
I notice this happening off and on every year and can't figure out exactly what i'm doing wrong while riding. I have a road bike, if that helps. Any suggestions?

Can you tell us more about the pain? Is it constant? Stabbing, or dull ache? Does it only hurt when you do something, like move a certain way or take a deep breath?
its a stabbing paint when i first wake up. and i feel like i cant move. it takes a lot of effort to change positions. but it doesns't last the entire day. Its off and on.
Its the kind of pain that takes your breath away?
You should see a doctor about this right away. Might be nothing, or might be something serious. Never take chest pain or shortness of breath lightly!

Yeah, I'd check with a doctor on that. Best to be on the safe side. And hopefully the doctor will know how to make the pain go away.
thanks everyone! i just wanted to know if it was a common thing.
