    Kali still hasn't grown into those ears!

    In my research, I saw that GSDs are prone to DM. Your sweetie looks like she adapted well to her wheels! Did she lose control of her bladder at any point?

    Maud first started showing signs of it when she was around five. First, the weakening in the hind legs and then, occasional (now frequent) fecal incontinence.

    What's DM? Sounds like hip dysplasia. My mom had a golden retriever with hip dysplasia. She died at age 6.

    What's GSD (German Shepherd Dog??)

    so many questions...

    Sorry, you can't take the bureaucrat out of me.

    GSD=German Shepherd Dog.

    DM - Degenerative Myelopathy. To put it in very simplistic (and not completely accurate terms), it's doggie MS. The dog gradually loses the use of his/her hind legs, has fecal incontinence, etc. I believe it eventually progresses to the point where they lose control of their bladder and front limbs. The dog simply cannot tell where his/her legs are because they lose feeling in them.

    Apparently, they located a gene linked to it, so now breeders can test for that marker and work toward eliminating DM.

    She was on a schedule to minimize accidents and when she did have one, it was usually in her sleep. We'd play wheelbarrow out to the yard in the early morning hours to keep her happy. As for her wheels, she did better in the yard than in the house. Her wheel would get hung as she rounded a corner in the hall and then she'd get the most pitiful expression on her face. So during feeding time and frisbee time, she'd hop into her Doggon Wheels.

    Andrea--

    Bmccasland--hubby and I once rented a cabin in the woods with a hot tub on the deck. Every evening a little bat would come for a visit as we sat in the hot tub under the stars. It was so neat watching him zoom in on the insects.

    New Family members!

    Been a bit since I posted, been lurking though. Here is a pic of my new baby, a two year old Shar Pei, Bailey, that joined my home just this Saturday. She is amazing, loving, and chases the bunnies outside like nobody's business...

    Been settling into the new home, relationship, doggie, working full time for two months and just getting healed up and better! What a year and a half. Body aches a bit for the colder riding, but can't wait for the weather to break and start rollin in the sidis again. Good to be back!

    She's a rescue from Operation Scarlet in Lancaster, PA. We don't even want to think about what happened to the leg. No surgery, it just got broke off the vet said, but it is ok right now and healed. She is the biggest sweety and a perfect dog for me with all my limpiness. We walk about the same speed! Snowing today, maybe riding by the weekend! WHOOO HOOO!!
