    Heart Rate Monitor

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Hello!

I am starting to train with a coach for the 70.3 in New Orleans in April.

I have to get a heart rate monitor, but I don't know which one! I don't have to have it for swimming, but I will use it on the bike and run.

    Any suggestions! Thanks!

I had the same question when I started - the thread is back 2 Christmas's (2006).

I got a Polar F-6 - I LOVE it. It was less than $100 and doesn't have the bells and whistles of a lot of them but has exactly what I need. I do wear it swimming too on occasion and it is fine.

I love it -love it -love it and it is pink

I have a (pink) Polar F6, too, and it works great. I don't Tri, though.

    I have a Nike Imara (I don't know if that's spelled right).
It's a regular watch that has the HR monitor to go along with it. I'm lazy and don't want to fiddle with 2 watches (i.e. putting on the wrist band along with my watch when I workout). I just put on the HR strap and go when I'm working out.
It does everything: AVG HR, you can set HR zones (low, target, high), calories burned, intervals, an alarm, etc.

It was about $100 and I've had it for a few years. I really like it.

I have the Polar f-6 in Green Tea, looks better against my very fair skin than the light pink. I love it although I admittedly don't know what I am doing with it!

Is it bad that I want the polar one just because it is cuter than the other ones?

Can you set the heart rate zones on your own or does it automatically set the zones?

I totally have no IDEA what I am doing with it, but that is why I am getting help :-)

    Thanks!

Hey we are WOMEN - cute counts!

You can set your own HR zones, It also has a memory, estimates calories burned and other things that I don't use at this time.

So I got the polar F-6 in pink! I have used it all week, and it's actually pretty fun to have on.

Thanks for all of the advice!

I wear the Numetrex Bra - it is the one with the heart rate monitor built into the bra strap.

    I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!

I can't believe how easy and comfortable it is - no inconvenient strap to put around your chest.

And they sell the complete system (the bra, the transmitter, and the watch) at their website.

Oh, and the bra is so comfortable that I also wear it as just a sports bra too when I don't need to track my heart rate.

    I would highly recommend it!

    Their website is www.numetrex.com

Edit: I see that you already bought the watch. Congratulations!! If you still want the bra and transmitter, you can order those on their web site.

    Over 50 newbie

can you wear something like that in the water? I didn't take the time to look for the specs on it.

I think you will really like the polar f-6. I really like mine and have been using it more and more. I have been wearing it swimming and am figuring out how to do more w/ it.

I like that the Polar is so compatible w/ a lot of the machines so I don't have to wear the watch if I don't want to (although now I don't like going on any of the machines because I run on the track or outside, bike on my own bike and trainer and of course swim in a pool)

    Eclectic,

They say not to wear it in the water on a regular basis.

So I don't wear it during all of my swimming practices, but I do wear it for my triathlons and I have never had any problems with it.

You are also supposed to remove the transmitter when washing it, but I have forgotten a few times and it still works fine.

Kacie- I think you will really like the F6. You can read up on how to set your Own Zone (it is easy) and get a more true to you picture. You could have VO2 Max testing done and get really high tech. I still don't have a clue what I have it for but it makes me get all these great numbers which just fuels my little OCD head.
