with only two lessons under my belt, I know my posture is not so good... but I'm learning and it's fun and the horses are beautiful!! This horse is Lady... 22yo, prior show horse. She is pretty good... but likes to "park" and keeps going to the middle where the trainer is... but the trainer keeps telling me that's because I'm not steering her right, ahhhhhhhhhh... it's so exhausting, LOL! j/k... it's actually wonderful. This past weekend I trotted more and I got to canter... now THAT was fun!

My boyfriend bought me a horse riding helmet for Sweetest Day (awwwwwwww) and I went out and bought some Ariat riding boots the next day... it's so cool. The last pic you can see my trainer... in the back. She's exhausting!!... fills my head with so many instructions for 1hr, ugggh, LOL!

Looks like fun. I havent ridden ridden in many years. I remember when I was young I would wake up, jump on my horse and be gone for the whole day. Id love to get back to it but its just so expensive. I remember my parents complaining about how much money it took when I used to do 3 day eventing and horse shows. I was a very lucky girl. I have a friend up the road who keeps telling me to come up and ride her horses for her and maybe I will. The pictures are great and it looks like your catching on quick!

I had my own horse from age 9 and grew up riding every day, segued into (read: battled my parents) riding racehorses as a teenager, then just got enough and quit when I was in my early 20s. I'm getting these horsy pangs now though, maybe I'll be back soon. Still love horses. Just not all the work that goes into keeping them myself.

Hope you have a great time learning to ride! You'll love cantering outside, on a nice forest track!

Horse riding is addictive......... I rode my horse at the weekend, haven't ridden much over our winter, so really enjoyed getting out and having a hoon round the fields and jumping some natural logs ....... I'll try and upload a photo of her..........

Now that I'm inspired to ride again, I'm trying to work out how to cycle and horse ride on limited time

Oh I envy you! I miss my horses so much - I owned two Appaloosas and lived on a 200 acre farm and rode tons of trail in the Va. mountains. Every now and then DH and I will go to a stable and take a little trail ride. I have loved horses since I was a little girl and still draw and paint them whenever i get the chance. Alas, I have to just enjoy my two old saddles and various horse tack and my collection of Breyers for now. Someday we hope to have enough acreage to get a couple of trail horses, but they are indeed expensive to own. Enjoy those lessons - and best of luck to you. Thanks for posting the pics!

Oh, that brings back the memories. It was always one of my life's dreams to own a horse. It's close to flying, without actually doing so. The bike is my close ownership second.

We lived in the city, and no hope of us ever having the land, or the $ to own. Somehow my mother came up with the $ for lessons. I rode English style in my lessons, and jumped. I did ride western too a bit. Nice broken ribs too from riding. I didn't care. Back on I got.

Sitting the horse properly takes an incredible amount of skill. More so than people realize. Everything should look completely effortless, and motionless from the rider's waist up. Horse and mount are one. It's all in the pelvis and balance. You might find that your horseback riding makes you an even better cyclists.

Just as people would answer initially that you steer your bike with the handle bars, is the same with bridle to horse. You use your entire body to direct your bike and the horse. Even as a living creature, you will learn how to pick up on it's cues on how she will perform, or predict the response. Bike alike.

Woohoo!!! Good job!

Riding is one of those things where you are ALWAYS learning. I used to ride a lot and even trained horses professionally for a few years, and I was always amazed at how you could learn something from every horse.

Great pictures! I sighed looking at them. One day I will get back on a horse. I grew up in a race horse family, we still have horses at my dad's-I have pics of me when I was 3 on the back of a horse. Got thrown really bad when I was 23 and quit. What they say about getting back on the horse (and bike) is true. I drive by a ring where they give lessons every day and I find myself wanting to find someone with a very patient horse that will put up with me freaking out for my first 'back in the saddle' experience. Hey that horse Lady looks like a nice horse...

And if someone could figure out the girl and horse connection, they could make alot of money. Why is it every little girl wants a horse?
