If you are going with a thinner tri short you might want to consider a neoprene saddle cover. Both Desoto and QR make one.

I am doing my first half-IM in a week 1/2 (Barb's Race in Santa Rosa, CA).
I want to wear tri-shorts and am looking for suggestions on good brands/ styles that have been comfortable on this distance.
Also, what has worked for on top? Right now planning on wearing a tri-tank with pockets but am concerned about sunburn.
thanks for the help!

Just keep pedaling.
My Desoto tri shorts fit great and cover up what I want covered.Originally Posted by madisongrrl

Do you think you would be comfortable wearing a full swim suit... then putting cycling shorts over that, and running in all that?
It's all about what is comfortable for you though... and it's best to practice with the clothing before the event, so you know it's comfort level.
Thanks for the suggestions, my Mom sent me some Sugio Tri-Shorty shorts from this website. I tried them out in a 30 mile bike/6 mile run brick last week and they work pretty well.
I still get some discomfort up-front in the aerobars but I have the same feeling in any of my other bike shorts in that position. After the race I'll probably investigate a new saddle or forward seatpost, but don't want to mess with the bike so close to the race.
thanks again for the help; I am leaving tomorrow to drive to CA! Can't wait!
