Need help accessorizing my new bike please

    To disable ads, please log-in.

So I test rode the Madone 5.1 today and it felt amazing. BF and I are picking up my new bike tomorrow! (I did not want to stack my new bike on top of my old one, since we took the smaller car). First of all, I got an amazing deal. Two months ago, the bike was around $3,100, not including tax. When I went to look at it over the weekend, it was $2,660. I got it for $2,380, including tax!! It helps to know the right people in the bike shops around here.

Ok, so I am already thinking of how to accessorize my bike. Do I go with the pink theme, or the white theme? Pink theme = pink saddle, pink handlebar tape, white theme = well, you get my drift...I definitely do not like the Bontrager saddle that comes with the bike. I think white will get dirty quickly. But pink might be too girly? But I love pink...so I don't care. The guys at the shop suggested white saddle, pink handlebar tape. I don't know.

Since I value your opinions (I always come to this forum for advice - so far, so good), What do you guys think?

Here is a stock picture of the bike from their website...it might help to envision the colors on it. The one I have comes with the greyish Bontrager saddle and black handlebar tape.

Oooh that is a yummy bike. As an expert in accessorizing in pink and clashing it with green tires I say pink highlights would be hot. Fizik has pink bar tape that is much sexier than Bontrager's pink tape and it comes with Fizik branded tape to use at the top instead of icky electrical tape. Besides, how do you plan to keep the white tape clean? Then, you can be cool like me and get the Fizik Vitesse in white with pink highlights. Not pink overkill on that pretty white thing, but enough that it's unique.

C'mon, how can you not think this is HAWT:

That is a nice looking saddle, but is it comfortable? I loved the saddle on my Fuji, but I don't want to transfer it onto my new bike, since I plan on keeping my old bike and riding it from time to time.

The problem with pink . . . is that all the pinks are different! I have a pink King headset and have done the pink tires and bar tape. Was going to get the pink version of my saddle (Aspide Glamour). But have decided, instead, to go with white and have the headset as just a bit of bling. [I have discovered that Selle San Marco does sell bar tape that matches its saddles exactly.]

If you can get a saddle and bar tape that match, exactly or nearly so, I'd say go for it. Whoever suggested mixing a white saddle with pink handlebar tape is fashion-challenged. The 5.1 is a classy looking bike. Nice paint job, so I don't know about a full-on pink saddle and bar tape. The Vitesse white w/pink *might* look okay with pink bar tape, but I think white would look better. Just a touch 'o pink on the saddle.

Actually Fizik color coordinates their saddle colors to the bar tape so yeah they match darn near perfect. I mean they are two different materials so they aren't perfect but close. No worse than trying to match blacks and they'll be far apart. So maybe I am fashion challenged but I do what I like and don't give a rat's tookus!

As for comfort I loooove the Vitesse. I had one on my MTB because it came with, big surprise, a Bontrager saddle. Ugh! My desire to ride multiplied a million fold the day it arrived. Same effect on this bike. I was not digging the crummy saddle I had so I chased down another Vitesse. I'm not a big padding person though, so your mileage may vary. Perhaps your LBS will let you try out a black one before ordering the white/pink?

Meeee-yow! How much for that kitten in the window? The one with the sexy pink paint!

Ugh, I saw a pink/black Diva on the Tour de Cure and I totally swooned when the gal walked by with it. The owner sneered at me like I wasn't worthy of looking at her bike. I know stealing bikes is wrong, but she deserved to be pummeled and have her bike jacked by someone who would love it. Namely, me. Bike geeks are a lustful sort and you have to know going into it that buying that bike that it will get looks. Can't handle it, buy something at Wal-Mart.

Okay, sorry to jack your thread but you got my heart rate up with that gorgeous thing.

I say go with the pink because white is the prodominate color on the frame. I think pink accessories will help bring out the pink on the frame without being overwhelming. Funny, on Sunday my brother was looking at shoes for his new bike and I commented that he should get a pair that have red in them to match. He kind of laughed, but on Monday he emailed and said that after I mentioned it he couldn't stop thinking about it and ended up with grey/red shoes

From the picture, the bike looks white (and for some reason, I thought it looked white as well when I first saw it) but then when I saw it again last weekend, it noticed it was a light silver/grey...I think Trek calls it silver blossom.

My heart also skipped a beat when I saw this pink beauty. It is limited edition and made for Alberto Contador...so the price tag will probably warrant a heart attack.

I also took a look at the pink/black Diva...gorgeous. Too much bike for me though.

I don't get people who give you looks when you stare at their bikes...come on now, let's share the love!

you can stare at my bike any time you want. I can't imagine who anyone would ride an eye catching bike and then not like it when people gaze at it!

    good luck on your quest.

I'm jumping in because I just bought a trek with a similar theme. I didn't like the white handlebars and planned on putting my black seat on it. However, after talking it over my husband--he thought the white handlebar tape looked sharp and if I changed the seat it wouldn't match. The lbs owner said that was the new colors for next year. He fitted me with the white seat on it--so I am going to go with it for awhile. Function will win over fashion in the long run, however. I've only rode it once, but my sister and brother-in-law said, "WOW!" It's growing on me!

Oh, and when did men become fashion divas?! My t-shirt-and-jean-wearing husband just built a new bike. It's black carbon fiber with red and gray stripes. He spent days searching for wheels that would match (he found them and they are perfect!) We went on a two day ride and he refused to put a water bottle holder on his bike until he could find a black carbon fiber one with red accents (he found one!) Seriously? The lbs owner was complaining that the new Trek models are coming in with silver stems and they only have black stems in stock. He said, "we would have had a real problem if I needed to change your stem, because I don't have one that would match." WOW. Seriously?

I KNOW!! BF is the same! Everything has to match. But oh well, all the better for me, because he doesn't put any limitations on whatever I would need to make my bike look smoking.

If only he could understand my need for certain purses and shoes...sigh

Beautiful bike, and great deal! I was told 'shades' of pink are the new thing as well. Have fun accessorizing!
