I don't know if I told you guys about a Pinarello I was corresponding about...a lugged steel hotty from 1982 in fabulous shape...and I think in my size..she hasn't given me any real numbers yet...in fact, I thought it was all over when she suddenly stopped writing...and then today, after several weeks, she sent pictures....
I just got Mr elk that volpe....and I'm in a moment of
Do I continue this conversation possibly leading to a transfer of treasure...or just save my money*so one day i can get a custom...???

My personal opinion:
Share in the glory of Mr. Elk's new Volpe- get your vicarious new bike thrill through him.....and save up for a custom bike. A custom bike WILL fit you and be like riding on velvet.
Something that crosses my mind is that if you get this other bike now, in a subtle unintended way it will take away a little from Mr. Elk's happy new addition. Let him get all the exciting bike attention right now.
I can just see you both riding along down the country road together.....Volpe and Aurora....gangreen and root beer..... (hmmm maybe scratch that last part, not too romantic sounding....)

Oooh that is a nice bike.
I love Pinarellos but I guess only you can decide if its the right choice for you.![]()

I'm usually the last one to talk anyone out of buying a bike but....do you really want to buy a bike from someone who has been that large a PITA? Just a thought....

Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...
I don't think this would undermine Mr. Elk, I think the two classic Italian lugged steel beauties would look elegant together.Aren't Volpe's dark green? With this red/chrome bike, yum.
What crosses my mind is the seller; gone, forgotten then suddenly back in the picture. Is this person local? Can you try the bike? If this is not local I'd say no.

All bikes are good especially steeeeeeeeel bikes and while the Volpe would look good with a Pinarello little sister I question the vanishing seller. Could be they just got busy, life happens. More likely they had another buyer who backed out for some reason and now here you are the back up offer.

thank you Ladies...my suspicions exactly. I think she is very conflicted about letting this bike go...and it is also across the country...
so byebye for now Miss Italy....we'll let the Fox be the new kid......
wise as always..even in the face of Italian lugged steel...
So what do you think> Honey Brooks??? on that grey green??? ;-)
Discipline is remembering what you want.
Definitely! Or the dark Brown Brooks.
Here's a pic of my husband's Rambouillet with a honey brooks- it's a sort of sage/pea green not completely unlike the Volpe 'gang green' (just gotta love that color name!)

I think you are making a wise decision about the Pinarello. Sometimes it's hard to resist old bikes, for sure.
P.S. Never ask Knot whether you should buy an old steel bike or not.![]()
P.P.S. If that bike was so great it would have been snapped up by someone long ago in her area- you can bet she's been showing it to people near her so she wouldn't have to ship it. I suspect it has 'issues' that are only apparent to people who really know bikes.

should I buy a Brooks?![]()
Thanks TE! You pushed me half way over!

well, Mad, I LOVE my Brooks...sometimes it hurts my butt, but not much and it never hurts that "other" part.
Wallbike gives you the saddle and some time to decide if you like it..
and I think you're either a Brooks person or not... not too many in betweens.
oh wait....you were kidding!!!!!!!!
and my dilemma for the Volpe is only what COLOR Brooks...;-)
