Welcome to TE! How'd you hear about it? If a bike shop pointed you "our" way, then that's a good sign for that bike shop.
I'm not from TX, never even been there. But if you go to the members map (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=4272) maybe you can find somebody nearby by clicking the nearest "map pins" ...? Then just send them a personal message. No prob here doing that, even if you haven't been "formally introduced" beforehand. Then too, go the the thread above that and introduce yourself.
I agree that one good place to start is with a good bike shop, a place that'll give you good advice, help you find a good bike fit (fit is very important!) in a model that has what you need and is in your price range. So go ahead and ask any Texans with nearby map pins if they have a favorite LBS (local bike shop). Otherwise, the next step is to go from shop to shop and see who takes your needs seriously, as opposed to who tries to palm something off on you that is, say, unsellable or very expensive or their own idea of what you need no matter what you say. Yep, there are such places. But there are also some great bike shops around. Happy biking![]()
