    Pes Anserine Bursitis

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I have been training for some big rides this summer and have noticed lately after each ride a tenderness/soreness on my leg. The exact position is just below and towards the inside of my right knee. My doctor said I have something called Pes Anserine Bursitis. It could be from overuse or early signs of arthritis. He recommends PT and maybe even a cortisone injection into the bursa.

Right now I am mulling it over. Anyone out there familar with this condition? Are there any PT out there who might know what sort of therapy I would be doing for Pes Anserine Bursitis?

    Hopefully this is not serious.

    Thanks!

    Sue

you know i'm no expert, but remember what they told me? Slow down... give yourself a week without pushing yourself... let stuff heal. then go at it again!

That is good advice Mimi! My hubby is constantly telling me to rest too. I am the first to admit that I am my worse enemy. I push myself when it comes to my cycling.

I'm going to try and do some easy rides this Memorial Day weekend instead of the longer ones I had planned. I may go and see the PT too.

Joe thinks I should not do the RAMROD! I just can't give that up . . . yet!!!!

We'll see how my knee does.

He he he . . . my daughter would agree with you there! She has been asking me to bake cookies for about 3 weeks now!

But we don't need them! Sweets are my weakness! I'm trying to get in shape for summer!

    Smile Pes Anserine Bursitis

    Hello all!

This is my first post to the forum and is probably appropriate because this problem (pes anserine bursitis) is what introduced me to cycling. About 10 years ago, I developed acute pain in the region you mentioned after a stairmaster workout. The pain persisted and resulted in several orthopedic visits and temporary relief from cortisone injections. About 7 months later, I had had enough. I had arthoscopic knee surgery to check out the knee (it was totally normal) and when this was found to be normal the surgeon proceeded to an open bursectomy. It was during the rehab process that I began biking and swimming, and 7 months later I completed a sprint triathlon. 10 years later I have had no recurrence of the knee pain except for occasional twinges, which are minor and never an issue. Biking has never been a problem for it. The surgeon did tell me that a pes anserine bursectomy doesn't always help. I guess I was lucky! Ironically, my orthopedic surgeon also competed in my first triathlon (different category, of course)!

It has been about 7 years since I was biking regularly. Career demands and moves and life have gotten in the way. I have been wanting to get back into biking for awhile and I am poised to make a leap. For the past few weeks I have been trying to get into better shape before I start, and I am looking to buy a nice new road bike. All that time on my career has at least given me the financial means to splurge on something for myself (for once)! My first road bike gave me lots of pleasure but it was way too big and caused me back and arm pain. I have found this forum in an effort to research which bike to buy. I LOVE THIS FORUM! I have been lurking on the site for a few days and I am finally leaving a note once I found this question about pes anserine bursitis. I am hoping that my story may be encouraging for others who suffer from this problem.

    Anyhoo, greetings TE!

    Georgia
