    Living with Hypothyroidism

I do have hypothyroidism, so I know it's harder to lose weight, but shouldn't I be making some kind of progress instead of moving up the scale?
limewave: I also have hypothyroidism and believe me, I feel your pain. I had not had a stable TSH for the past 5 years. I ditched doctor after doctor for treating my lab results instead of treating my body. It's very important that you find a GREAT endocrinologist that will listen to your story and set you on the right path to wellness. Just because your TSH may show within normal levels does not mean that you are well... every person is different.

I found my new endocrinologist 6 months ago. He took me off of a blood pressure medicine that I was on that he thought was contributing to making me listless and tired. Immediately, my energy level came up!! He adjusts my thyroid meds every six weeks by very small increments to keep my TSH where it appears to be optimum for me. He also noted that I have had high Glucose levels on my blood work for years, even though my previous doctor never mentioned it to me. I now take a med to control my Glucose levels as well. If I lose 5 more pounds he is going to take me off of a cholesterol medicine that I have been taking for 10 years!

For the past 10 years I had gained 5 pounds a year even though I have always eaten healthy, managed calorie intake and did some sort of exercise.
I had a personal trainer for 1 year and did not lose a single pound!! Yet,
in just 6 months of working with my new doctor, eating well, riding my bike and taking spin classes, I have lost 23 pounds. It has been coming off slowly but surely. I wish I had a faster/better metabolism, but I'm working with the hand I was dealt.

A good endocrinologist can really make a difference, and don't settle for a doctor that won't talk to you about your body, your nutrition, your energy levels... they can't just treat our lab results. If your metabolism isn't right, the best you will ever be able to do is to keep from gaining.

    Hi Everyone,

I have decided to kick it up notch. I am ready to get really serious again about my eating and exercise. I'm making a pledge to only put completely healthy items into my mouth until the end of this challenge and to work even harder during my exercise. I have discussed this with my personal trainer and he has agreed to show "no mercy" during our wokouts. I am dedicated to doing this.

I took out a pair of size 8 jeans from my drawer last week and I could not zip them up, I couldn't even button them. By the end of this challenge, I will be able to not only zip them, but wear them comfortably.

I can do this, I will do this!

Okay - this is how serious I am!

Here are three photos of me not fitting into my jeans - a back view, a side view, and a front view.

I will take three more pictures at the end of this challenge. They will look different, I guarantee it!

I have been down as low as 117.5 and as high as 121. I have no idea what my correct weight is right now. BUT, I did finally get the Tanita scale and my body fat APPEARS to be around 23-24%. It's highest in the morning when I'm dehydrated and lowest in the mid-afternoon. I'm supposed to weigh myself just before dinner for the most accurate result. At that time, I'm usually around 119.5 lbs and 23% body fat. In the morning, I weigh more but my BF is 26%.

But the good news is that I went for a run in my shorts and sports bra on Saturday. That is the first time in 25 years I've had my tummy exposed to the public. It's not perfect but it looks good enough when I'm standing up so get away with it. (I get super hot when I'm running...). I hope someday to be able to sit down in public with my tummy exposed and not have the 3 rolls...

Good job everyone!! So far, Pika is leading the pack in both lbs lost AND % of starting weight lost. Go Pika!! Now, let's all buckle down and de-thrown her!

Kjay - we'll miss you. Hope everything turns out ok.

OVER50: You are so bold! I looked like that in my size 12's several weeks ago... they fit now! But I'm not posting photos! I do have them at home to view daily, though! Size 8? ... not even up my thighs!

Good job on the committment... look forward to seeing the end results!

Maybe we should all take and post photos at beginning and end! That would be very motivating!

Lynette is the winner so far in my books- my husband and I took photos like that- we call them our "phat photos"- but I haven't got the nerve to post them!
And after a terrible food day ( a delicious but oh so fattening brunch which included pancakes with fruit and whipped cream with some kind of homemade saugages) and then dinner was asparagus with perogies!I rarely eat perogies or sausage so I am feeling kinda queasy right now- Won't be hard to beat me next week if I keep this up!
good luck all and I better get back on track after this long weekend!

A quick note before I go to bed...

I just took a homemade banana bread out of the oven. The smell filled the whole house. I buttered a piece and gave it to my daughter. It melted onto the bread and smelled divine.

And I didn't have one piece!

    where is aunt flo

I wish she would hurry up and get it over with but ohhhhhnooooo she loves to drag it out with PMS that makes Manson look SANE!!!!

Rode a very good mtb ride yesterday. It made me feel like a person again. I burned it good for 3 hours. 1800 calories or so departed. Adios. I snuck a peak at the scale. I'm back to 193 but when aunt flo comes there is usually a good drop. If it wasn't for the PMSing and 'symptoms' I would think it wasn't showing. Anyone else having this problem? I'm not pregnant (oh man that would suck) someone said it was the full moon. I sort of believe it. Weight training today.
