    Hey Oakleaf-
Looked at the REI shorts last night. The rise is on the higher end...maybe 1-2 fingers below my belly button. (a bit higher than I generally like, but not too high to make me not wear them!). I got a small in them... I usually wear a size 6 pants, 8 if they are slim through the thighs. They are really stretchy, so while the waist looks really little it isn't bad.

I actually like the Roadrunner sports shorts better, the rise is a bit lower (~2-3 fingers below belly button) and they have a little zipper pocket on the side for keys, a gell, or MP3 player.

In general I really like RRS gear, very reasonably priced and I love their sports bras...one of the only over the head bras that works for my 34D chest with out hardwear!

    Have you tried...

    Body glide?

I have chaffing issues too, sometimes. During the winter I run in tights, but when the temps warm up I like shorts. Though capris would be really nice too.

Go to a running store or a sports shop like Scheel's and find a tube of body glide. It looks like a deodorant stick, but you put it on offending surfaces. On each of your thighs, on portions of your feet that might rub on shoes, etc. I've had a stick for like a year, since I don't use it all of the time, and it doesn't seem to take a lot of the product to be effective.

Plus, it only costs maybe $5 or so, I forget.

Teigyr: I made sure last year that the Tri shorts I bought (Pearl Izumi) were at least 6" long for that very reason (http://www.triathletesports.com/2008...-0427-7ab4.htm). The 6" seemed to be just enough for me, but I think I've seen 8" also (here's a pair... http://www.triathletesports.com/2008...rspe6a-7b9.htm).

The worst nightmare -- not just rubbing, but rubbing when WET! OUCH
