Now, for starters, let's just say that I'll never be a tri gal, my exercise routines are much lighter.
Okay, I try to walk 2-3 times a week, a mile a day. I go to the gym theoretically 3 times a week, but more like 1 time a week, plus spin class about 2x a week plus bike rides. A nice ride for me is between 20-60 miles, and we do hills. So now you have an idea of my routine.
I got sick last week, a pretty tough bug, maybe the flu. Fever, cough, congestion, inflammation, and it knocked me on my back.
So, this started Wednesday Evening, but by saturday, i started feeling pains deep in my big muscles, just like i used to get from Fibromyalgia many years ago. (I'd been asymptomatic ever since I started my exercise program)
So Sunday, I got on my bike even though I still felt bad, throat tight and sore, nose still going like a fountain... because my legs were starting to ache.
The bike ride made me feel better, and today i walked a mile (and it felt good)
even though i'm still coughing and congested.
IT JUST TOOK 3 days to send me back to my pre-exercise condition????

Mimi, I've found that the older I get, the longer it takes me to recover from both exercise and being sick. Last winter I had bronchitis in Feb. and it was the end of March before I felt myself. Also, I think it could be related to the fibro.
Try the walking before you do anything on the bike or spin; I've set myself back too many times than I care to remember by trying to get out on the bike before I should have.

In ballet we used to say that for every day of class you missed, it took two to get back to where you'd been before you missed. Just a saying, but that seemed to be pretty much true to all of us. That has not been the case for me with cycling, where I find I can miss more time with less setback. I'm guessing it's because of the precision and control that ballet required. Of course I feel it if I've been off the bike for several weeks--slower, more sluggish--but the rebound isn't nearly as bad as it was in dance.

I've been doing a boot camp for the last 3 months. We took one week off at the first of January. When I came back, I was RARING to go, and everything seemed so easy (I only worked out a little on the off week).
I think you're just still whipped by the virus. It takes a long time for some of them to clear. I had one a few years ago and I was bedbound for 10 days--no cold symptoms, just profound lethargy and a fever. As soon as it was over, it was over, and I was fine.
You'll come back. Keep trying. Feel better.

Boot Camp? Me, too. I did 3 weeks before Xmas, took off for two weeks and was raring to go on the return. I did nothing but sit in a car and drive or heave moving boxes around.
Though I have to say today we were alll begging for wall sits for recovery time. Huge cardio day.

No, I wasn't pleased with my quick recovery. I was disturbed by the quick return of symptoms (deep muscle pain) that I haven't felt for years.
I feel like today I have all my strength back, and the virus is now down to a stupid cough, but last night I took tylenol for pain before I went to bed, because my big muscles were hurting.
Tonight I'm going to the gym. The issue is not whether or not I'm going to overdo it, it's HOW CLOSE I AM to where I was before I ever started getting healthy.
It could be the virus causing the pain, too. Wicked virus. grrr.
