New Bike Shop

When I was bike shopping, I checked out all the shops I could around St. Louis ( I know I missed many, but I looked during my lunch break, so had to stay mainly in chesterfield/ creve coeur area). Athough I live in a tiny town about 45 miles from work(no shops or businesses there), my DH works in Eureka, and my son goes to daycare there, so we end up doing most of our business there. Driving to pick up my son yesterday I noticed in a new strip mall, a new business- something like "ski, climb, ride" , or "ski, climb, cycle", or something like that- not sure of the name.
I checked it out- they carry Kona and GT- didn't have the Kona Smoke I'd wanted to look at when shopping for my bike. It's just opened. But it's nice to have a bike shop right on my way. I tried not to really look at bikes, but a mountain bike sitting out in the open caught my eye- flat black paint, disc brakes, $399.00- Kona something but never found out what it was. I've looked on the website but can't be sure- many bikes still look alike to me. But I'm still thinking about that bike.
Anyway, no point to the post, really. I did try to tell my husband about the bike, as if I was thinking of it for him (I think I love that bike, but never rode it, and do not need another new bike), but still no interest. He took his walmart bike out and adjusted the rear derailler, adjusted the brakes, and cleaned it up (can't be a bad thing that he's learning to do these things, he's very mechanical). He took an old lockjaw rooftop carrier, and adapted it to fit on the back of my rear platform on my excursion. I use the platform for loading up dogs, some of the old dogs can't jump into the back easily. If I wanted to carry my bike, I had to remove the heavy platform to put on a bike rack, and the rack was dangerous for dogs trying to jump in and out of the truck. So now I've got a sturdy bike rack on the back of the platform, and can still load dogs even with a bike on the rack. The good thing is, he is actually studying it to see how to fit another rack on there to carry his bike!

Hi Vickie, how is the new bike? Have you been doing much riding? It sure was beautiful last weekend, wasn't it? Anyway, can you tel me where the shop is? Which strip mall? I'd like to stop there this weekend on the way to take my Trek in to get serviced. I'll be going on 44 (and I know you go down Gravois) so just a general idea since I know the area.

It's actually called "fox creek outfitters", it's in the schnucks mall on the second eureka exit- not the 6 flags one, but the one past there (coming east on 44). Get off on the exit, cross the overpass over 44, and take the first right onto the outer road (there's a panera's bread there).
I've been riding about every day (only 5 miles during my lunch break), the past two weekends me, my husband, and my little boy have ridden on the Al Foster trail. I rode during lunch yesterday, but today may be too cold and windy. Cold is ok, but not cold AND windy!
I love the new trek, it's just so much fun to ride. I think tomorrow I'm going to bring it to work, and stop by rte 66 state park on the way home. I'll have to do laps, and it may be boring, but it'll be flat and I can go fast. I can alternate the 3 mile loop and the 2 mile loop for laps.

Bike laps are still more interesting than swimming laps, especially if you cna keep half an eye on the 'puter to monitor speed & time (and cadence if you've got that).

All you had to say was Schnucks! My car has a mind of its own and turns in there every time I go home from St. Louis. Thanks I'll check it out. I need to try the Rte 66 park.

Sounds like your husband is liking the bike thing more and more. Think he will do a breast cancer ride with us? And hey, when are you coming to Rolla again????

I'll be there saturday! I'm bringing my bike, and might try the ride to st james again, hope to do better on a couple of the hills this time. If you are in the area, you are welcome to come along. My family is doing thanksgiving dinner this weekend, so I may not be able to go until after we eat, depending on when that is (they haven't told me yet), but if you are interested I could call you or something.
I had my bike but didn't get to ride much last saturday, but the saturday before that I rode the back roads to st james (they live out by the country club, off b hwy) The back road kind of parallels rte 66 and isn't as busy with traffic as rte 66. exit 266 is the one for rte 66 state park in eureka.
