MS 150 this weekend!

My daughter and I are riding this weekend in the MS 150 in La Conner! We are heading up to Mount Vernon tomorrow after work. The whole gang is going. Hubby Joe, son Aaron (our support team) and Jackie and me! I will give an after ride report with pictures!

AND IT looks like it is going to be a BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND! Wooooooo Hoooooo!

I hope everyone here will be out on their bikes too. Enjoying this "Indian Summer" weekend!

It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend. You all will have a great ride and I'll be there in spirit! I'm headed down to the beautiful town of Federal Way for the Subaru/Reebok tri. I had been having my fingers crossed about the weather....whew!

I can't wait to hear about how your ride goes.

Um, perhaps I'll see you in the beer garden? I'm riding with friends from work, in honor of a friend with MS, who agreed to be our team mascot! Look for the chick with a green Cannondale, blue Novara team jersey, and red helmet! (the one with two cups of beer in her hand post-ride).

Wow, what an awesome weekend and ride! Trickytiger wasn't it great? The first day's course was hilly! But beautiful. We crossed over Deception Pass. We had motorcycle escorts! I felt like I was in the Tour! LOL The second day was flat, mainly through La Conner. But we had a great time. I had to post this quickly before going to work. More details to come later! Just awesome!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone else in this area got out and enjoyed the sunshine!

Oh, it was So. Much. Fun! PERFECT weather, good people, good times! The first day is definitely a tougher ride- more rolling hills and rough pavement- but you're right, it's a special treat to ride over Deception Pass sans cars! The second day was much smoother, except for the brisk headwind going north and the fact that lunch was 50 miles in- but I love love loved it. Unfortunately, some teenage jerks assaulted me and my friend by throwing bottles at us from their car (she got hit and nearly crashed going 22mph

), but I heard the police found 'em (thanks MS course marshals!), and I suppose Daddy won't be letting Junior drive his car any more. We tried to catch the little pricks and nearly caught up (top speed: close to 30), but I suppose it's better that we didn't get them. I don't need a police record for beating up some kids.

All in all, a great weekend and a good cause. I'll be back next year!

Susan I just had to post and say that your ride with your daughter... well, that type of ride is one of the things that keeps me hooked on cycling. I really enjoying going for rides - training or events - with my children.

It's odd how there seems to have been quite a few 'incidents' with the MS 150...I read about someone who got flipped off by an elderly woman after she had almost right hooked him

.

I heard a few things too from people while riding the MS 150 this weekend. That the town of La Conner really hates the MS 150 coming up there every year because all the revenue goes to Mount Vernon. The riders stay in the hotels in Mount Vernon, eat in the restaurants there etc. Acutally it's true. If you've been to La Conner you will see it's a "quaint" little town with no hotel chains or big restaurants. And the early morning noise at the rider village with the music and people cheering . . . from what I heard from riders this weekend next year's MS 150 will be held in Mount Vernon. More specifically, the Skagit County Fairgrounds (which will be the new rider village and start). And there is also going to be the MS 150 in Oregon the same weekend.

I see you had a great Headwater Century ride East Hill! I love the Headwater Century routes. They are my favorite weekend and summer rides as I live so close by. I rode the 45 mile route all summer long. My daughter and I. I especially love the newly paved road just before the left turn that takes you down into Flaming Geyser. Smooth and black! Sweet. I rode it the day they were paving it in June and that was not fun. The fumes, the heat, and the waiting for the flagman to wave you on! LOL But now that it's finished it's so nice.

Now that I am back at work (my summer break is over

) I am hitting the gym and spin class during the weekdays and I'm praying for gorgeous riding weather for the weekends. On Sunday Joe, the kids, and a few friends of ours are doing the John Wayne Trail from Rattle Snake through the Snoqualmie tunnel to Hyak and back. 40 miles out and back. Uphill on the way out but downhill on the way back!

It would be nice to do the MS 150, but those work days and hours are just not conducive to that ride...

I like the HC routes also, and now that I have been over the country, I think I am going to start incorporating them into my longer rides.

The Headwater Century routes are my routine ride routes. Joe and I ride them all year long. We can make our ride as long or short as we like. We mix it up a lot too. We probably know all the roads in that area very well. I could probably do them blind folded. I just love riding around Enumclaw, Black Diamond, and that area in general. Oh and there's Starbucks after your ride or if you're really hungry try the Mint in downtown Enumclaw.

Glad you had a great day and ride. Sorry about your hubby though. I hope he is resting well and will be his good old self asap.

Yes, the HC loops are quite easy to make into a personalised ride which is as long or short as I want. They are close to you on your end, and close to me on my end! I wouldn't be surprised if we run into each other eventually
