Mt Tam/ Alpine Dam Sunday 8am

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Please join the Luna Chix this Sunday for challenging climbing, rolling hills, curvy descents, and views of the Bay Area, Ocean, Redwoods, and Tamalpais watershed.

We'll climb Alpine Dam and the "seven sisters" to Mt. Tam.
~56 miles. I think the elevation gain is about 4000 feet

Meet at Sports Basement Presidio entrance. Ride leaves at 8am sharp. See below for ride rules and etiquette.

Here's a pic from last Sunday's ride (that's Jobob on the right)

Please arrive early with the appropriate gear (e.g., your helmet), your bike ready to go (e.g., tires properly inflated), and sign the waiver sheet before 8:00am.

Don't forget your ID, insurance card, and emergency contact info. You'll also want a pump, patch kit, spare tube, tire levers, bike tools, food, water, and some cash just in case…

Please obey all traffic laws. Remember that bicycles are vehicles, and bicyclists are expected to follow all traffic regulations. This means stopping at stop signs and red lights, using hand signals, and riding single file on the right side of the road. Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers (BUT cars weigh 4000 lbs!)

    Be Predictable in Traffic

o Stay to the right of the road unless it is unsafe to do so
o Stop at stop signs and red lights
o Yield to pedestrians and vehicles as appropriate
o Make eye contact with drivers
o Ride in a straight line - don't weave between parked vehicles
o Signal your turns and braking

    Respect Group Ride Etiquette

o Introduce yourself, welcome new cyclists, and offer assistance if needed
o Be punctual - arrive ready to ride with your gear and bike in working order
o Use verbal or hand signals when slowing, stopping, turning or rolling
    - left arm straight out to signal a left turn
    - right arm straight out for a right turn
    - palm or fist behind your lower back to signal slowing or stopping
    o Be courteous
    - announce "On your left!" when passing cyclists. Pass *only* on the left
    - move to the right if a cyclist indicates they want to pass on your left
    - ride single file; two abreast if wide bike lane or very quiet street
    - indicate road hazards by pointing them out and/or by shouting
    - announce problems like open car doors, detrius on the roadway, etc.

Yep - did the test-ride today. Wow - this is a BEAUTIFUL route! The view from Alpine Dam Bridge will make you wish you brought your camera! I'll have mine.

    some notes to consider:

    - Expect heavy dew from the overhead trees at the top of Bolinas/Fairfax (feels like light rain).
    - Be prepared for dense fog along the "seven sisters" rollers
    - Be prepared for a cool breeze and light cross-wind

p.s. this ride is easier than last week's Page Mill Road but would still be a challenge for anyone who hasn't been training on hills.
    Cheers!

    bummer!

If you change your mind, feel free to bring Lee. One of the other gals will be bringing her husband

p.s. the fog and the dew are only a small portion of the ride.....
