OK, this morning, we put the 16 year old SilverDaughter on a plane to Mexico City to visit her best friend.

Do you know how hard it is to place your little girl on her first trip alone, to a foreign country, where she doesn't speak the language!!!

I was sniffling and tearing up the whole time!! I'm a very sensitive person

Of course, she did great on the trip and arrived just fine.

But, I just realized, my little girl is not my little girl anymore. She's a fine young lady and is becoming her own person.

I'm brimming with pride at the same time that I want to CRY

Awww Mr. Silver my dad is a sensitive guy, he cried when I told him I had Ezcema! Just wait until she goes to college. What is she going for? Sounds like a great trip!

I think I upset a salesman at the car dealership last year when I told him the little car he bought his daughter would come in handy when she left for college and had to park with the morons on campus. He looked like "she's gonna leave???". Well yeah, you said she was going to a college 90 miles away.

She's just going to visit with a friend. Her best friend moved there with her family last year. I was just so proud of her composure as she walked away. I suspect they will do some sightseeing too.

BTW, SD has severe excema. We are about at our wit's end. Do you have a severe case? What do you do about it? Nothing we have done gives her any relief.

I don't personally have eczema, but my ex had it pretty bad. Going off of gluten, dairy and refined sugar resolved most of his problems. Just my $0.02.

    Ah, Silver, and Mr Silver...

My just 19 moved away a few weeks before her birthday...

It is so very very strange without her... knowing she is a young woman, and not wanting to let her stop being my little girl...

    ...I hear you...

I have stopped counting the days and count her absence in weeks now, although I should try and graduate myself to months I suppose...

I have eczema too but thankfully not too bad.

Cows milk is one irritant for eczema. I believe goats milk helps. Has she ever been tested to see what she's allergic to?

I know how you feel. I remember the first time my son went to Scout camp. He was 12 years old at the time. I got one very brief phonecall from him saying he was having a great time...then "Got to go Mum. My mates want me". I knew then my little boy was turning into a young man and becoming his own person.

Then Mr S. there'll come the day when your daughter gets married. Then the day she gives you your first grandchild. As you hold your grandchild for the first time...can't describe the feeling

    Turnaround, turnaround,
Turnaround and youre a young girl going out of the door!

Where are you goin my little one, little one,
Where are you goin my baby, my own?
Turnaround and youre two, turnaround and youre four,
Turnaround and youre a young girl going out of the door!

    Turnaround, ( turnaround! )
    Turnaround and youre a young girl . . .
    Going out of the door!

Where are you going my little one, little one,
Little dirndls and petticoats, where have you gone?
Turnaround and youre tiny, turnaround and youre grown,
Turnaround and youre a young wife with babes of your own!

    Turnaround, ( turnaround! )
    Turnaround and youre a young wife . . .
    With babes of your own!

    With babes of your own . . . ( turnaround! )

My Ezcema is very mild and really only flares up in the winter. I am fortunate to control is using oatmeal soap that is fragrance free, pat skin dry instead of rubbing and fragrance free lotion (Aveeno) after showering. When I was finally diagnosed it was pretty bad and I used steroid cream for 2 weeks. I am sure SD has tried all those things though.

When she was 10, she promised:
    - she would always stay my little girl,
    - she would be satisfied with her Mom's mini-van.

    So, now that she's 16:
    - she's not my little girl, and
    - she's driving a jeep!

I think she's not going to be good at keeping promises - now I know why minors can't sign contracts

Awww Mr. Silver. Being sensitive is a good thing and be proud you raised a wonderful, independent young lady. Reading what you wrote makes me wonder what my dad thought when I moved to the USSR to study when I was 19. I probably should ask him. He too is a sensitive man.

Oh, I promised him I would buy him a Mercedes when I was an adult. He loves me even though I could not keep that promise.

Oh, Mr. Silver - I know how you are feeling. Our 14 y.o. son went to Paris for spring break. He was so nervous, but his excitement over the phone when he was at the top of the Eiffel Tower was amazing.

This summer he is so busy with scouts. He is working a cup scout day camp this week; attending regular scout camp the next week; then working NYLT (leadership) camp after that. He has 4 days off then heads to New Mexico to attend Philmont. To top it off, he was accepted into Honor's English for 9th grade. Wow, they sure grow fast.

Sadly I do not live anywhere near him. Otherwise he would love it. I will wave to you when you fly into the state of Ohio. Maybe we will get some rain by next month. Could you bring some with you? We are under water restrictions.

    I'm right there with you.

I'm putting the princess on a plane to France in Mid July- She's doing an exchange w/ an epal. Her epal is coming here for two weeks than the princess is spending two weeks over there.

I'm SO nervous about it - yes she's learning the language, she doesn't KNOW it! It's so far awayyyyyyyy.

I know I'll be a weeping mess when I leave that airport. Just thinking about it gets already!!

    Sheesh.

PS: my princess turns 16 this Oct.

Several years ago, we took the kids to Bavaria and Paris in the same trip. I thought they'd love the Bavarian castles and all...nope...they LOVED PARIS. Absolutely loved it.

They loved the museums!!! Kids loved the museum???? At The Louvre, SilverSon is looking at a big renaissance version of The Last Supper. He's standing there staring at this thing and says "Look at how all the lines in the painting point to Jesus' face". Huh? Did you just say that? He was 6 years old!
