As Thom and I were about to leave to drive to Bishop I told him I felt like I was forgetting something. I looked around and couldn't think what it was. We left.
Fifty miles into the six hour drive, I realized I didn't pack a windbreaker. Okay, no big deal. It's supposed to be really hot in Bishop. I have a fleece jacket. I have my bolero.
As we went over Tioga Pass, we saw these really nasty clouds in the distance. No where in the forecast did it say rain. We stopped for lunch in Lee Vining and then headed south. The skies were still dark. About 50 miles north of Bishop, it begian raining. HARD! It didn't last very long, but the temperature also dropped into the low sixties.
We stopped at a sporting goods store when we got to Bishop, picked up some extra tubes, a couple of Hammer Gels and a new purple jacket. Of course now it's guaranteed not to rain.![]()

Sounds like a crafty way to snag a great, new, purple jacket!!![]()

Very clever!! "Forget" something at home, then get something new!(I'll have to remember that trick. Maybe I'll forget my bike one day.... )
How was the ride?? I hope you didn't get rain - I'm sure your jacket purchase guaranteed you didn't! I hope you had a great ride. I'm sure you're still driving. At least it is a pretty ride home!
Looking forward to a full report (and pictures!!!)

My friend did that - ended up with a brand new pair of cycling shoes and cleats.
Did you end up riding through that thunderstorm after the Sagehen rest stop, Veronica? I had lugged around my arm and leg warmers in my pocket for the entire ride and I gave them to George at that stop. We rolled quickly in an effort to just get through that dark cloud and as soon as the rain hit us, the temps dropped dramatically. Go figure...I hand off the extra clothing and then I need it.![]()
No, I had no rain, just because I lugged the jacket around all day.![]()
