Turns out, it hardly affects my run time at all.
At my first tri of this year (my 3rd year of racing- but I only did 2 tri's a year for the previous 2 years), I decided to hold back on the back to save it for the run.

Well, I still got a side cramp on the run, even though I slowed down the bike.

What I learned is that my bike doesn't affect the side cramp on the run. My pace on the run affects me. I bought a watch so in my Oly I will PACE my run and keep a 11 minute mile. Anything under that and I am sure to get a side cramp.

    "bumpy pancakes"

    First of all, congrats!

I was there too! Very fun race and an amazing group of people - VERY supportive.

But, YES, I said it about a thousand times on Saturday, "I distinctly remember SOMETHING being described as "pancake flat". Those are some HILLY pancakes!". That first hill on the run? Coming out of the "woods"?! YIKES!

Excellent report, though! There was definitely a sense of "panic" in the water! During the bike and run I was pretty much able to look to others for "inspiration" or "pace", but it seems like everyone in the water was looking for the ONE person who knew what they were doing and couldn't find them! Yikes!

    Keep up the great work!

    Great job! You're a triathlete.

    Congratulations!

I'm glad you decided to go for it, it sounds like you had a lot of fun. I admire you for going out in the cold and wet too, especially for your first event. Can't wait to hear about the next one!

No way would I have gotten into that water! I hate cold water!

You did great and I'm really proud of you for getting out there and doing it. I think that is probably the hardest part of racing.
