Why do they call it "Tall"

Ok, I'm just a little frustrated. Looking through the "tall" specialty section, either at TE, or anywhere really, the pants/tights that they claim are "tall" or "long" come in a 31" or 31.5" inseam.

Um, I have a 36" inseam. 31" is NOT long. Grrrrr. And the same is true for jerserys too. They may be slightly longer than the average race jersey, but unless they add 3-4" to the torso, it's not going to be long enough.

Doesn't anyone make cycling clothes for me?

Take heart, though. At least TE will give us inseams and info on jerseys. Other place just make us guess. There have been some threads here in the past about which clothing lines are longer than others.

When I was a young-n, I was a rare giant at 6'. Today there are lots of young women near that height. I wonder why clothing manufactures haven't caught on. We don't all just play basketball!

I hear you as well - I'm 5'9" with a 34" inseam. Do you have similar shoe problems as well, then? The ads I read for Sidi shoes brag that they have "more sizes for women" and yet they don't appear to make the equivalent of an 11. Grrr.

Perhaps this will help:

What we measure is the UNSTRETCHED LENGTH of the garment (in size medium) from the center of the crotch to the bottom of the hem. This is *not* an inseam measurement.

A garment with an unstretched measurement of 31 inches from crotch to hem will easily fit someone with an "inseam" measurement of several inches longer.

Here's why:

Most people measure their "inseam" as the distance between their crotch and the floor, in stocking feet. But tights are designed to end at the ankle bone, not the floor.

Soooo, if your inseam measurement in 32,33,34 maybe even 35 inches, you should give a 31" tight a try. You might be surprised to discover it fits.

I hear you! I've tried all winter to find tights that are long enough and thin enough. I've found the 31" and 32" does not stretch to 34" Maybe it does in the lighter weight, but not in the hearvier weight tights.

How tall are you? 36" that's some long legs!!! I'm 5'8" (Actually they measured me at 5'7 3/4" last time )

I finally ordered a pair of men's small because they are 32" long. but I have to stop every so often to pull them up. Still expses about inch of my ankle. and this is with the drawstring tied so tight that it pulls down on my hip (the one with the hematoma)

Good news is that spring is a-comin', shorts !!! Yeah!!!!!

Nafula, I am 6'1 and have an inseam of 36. I bought men's tights and they fit me really well and were definitely long enough. I don't seem to have the same problem with torso, but I do with arms!

Thank goodness 3/4-length sleeves are popular or I would have nothing to wear to work ... On that subject, I have found Bennetton to be a great source for business suits and pants.

For jerseys, try a men's race or Euro cut (narrower in the waist than the "American" or club cut), and usually longer by at least a couple inches.

Are you all measuring those inseams correctly? I have many guys friends who are 6'1", up to 6'5" and I don't think one of them has an inseam longer than 34. Gal with a 36" inseam you have to be literally all leg!!!!!

Seriously, just because we're tall doesn't mean the logic that women tend to be proportionally longer in the leg than men doesn't still apply. Really, we do have inseams at 36".

Just like "normal" sized women, bike shopping can be hard for some of us--I sarcastically say that when it comes to buying a men's frame bike, I'm 6'4" from the waist down, but only 5'8" from the waist up. Needlesss to say, I'm looking at a custom bike and have long ago learned to compromise on clothes that fit.

BTW, I second the Euro fit jerseys....finally a jersey that I don't have to keep tugging down!

One of my coworkers is not much taller than me, and she has a 36 inch inseam. She told me the name of some online place she gets her pants at, Long Lovely Legs or something similar. (I asked because my mom is a 34 inch inseam and my aunt is 34-36 inch and they have an even harder time finding pants than I do!) Lucky me, I'm just a regular tall.

Apparently, she tried googling the wrong name and got a p0rn site!
