After my crash about a month ago, I was having headaches every 2-3 days. I knew it was probably from the whiplash in my neck, but I still went to the doctor, after 2 weeks. When my colleagues at work noticed me rubbing my head, I decided it was time to go. They gave me the standard neurological tests and I passed, but I still went for a CAT scan. He said I could have had bleeding in my brain, just be safe. Everything was fine, but I would rather know for sure. I was more of a wreck worrying about the headaches, even though I had no other symptoms and I remembered everything. So, PLEASE get checked out.

Good on you Suzie, for getting right back on that thar hoss!!!
It is so important to get back on your bike after a crash - sort out the thinking around it immmediately.
That said, I just want to echoe Knotted - have you had your wrist and concussion checked out?
Concussion can have a long-term way (that is several days) of sneaking back at you ...
Also - re your wrists... my daughter fractured her wrist and it took a week to show on the xray - the doctor put it in a temporary cast for a week "just in case" until a second xray could be done and read...
Wow, you are tough. I hope you're feeling better now. But honestly, there are things they can do for fractures and you don't want it to start healing crooked -- more problems than you can imagine and easily averted just by getting in there quickly.
Good luck.
“Hey, clearly failure doesn’t deter me!”
Suzie!! I'm back after a short absence.....MY GOD GIRL....take care of yourself will you?
Suzie and I have the same bike...exactly and I'm STILL not comfortable with my clipless pedals. I live in FEAR of falling and breaking something. My auxiliary 'training pedals' are working fine for me and I'm wondering if I'll ever go clipless. Every story like this one, has me shaking in my biking shoes.
Suzie...your memory loss is bothersome. Will you go in and at least TELL a Dr. what happened?
Glad you got a new helmet.
Love to all,
Maureen
Suzie,
If you suspect your wrist is fractured, I really would recommend you getting it x-rayed. My partner is an orthopaedic surgeon (who specialises in hands) and leaving a fracture is one of the worst things you can do; they are always easier to fix before the body begins to heal itself. It's certainly NOT true that nothing can be done for a fractured wrist. I certainly wouldn't recommend riding on it. You really don't want to set yourself up for a recurrent problem that might have been treatable. There isn't really much they can do for fractures.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

Life is Good!
Suzie--I just have to ditto what everybody said--go to the dr. After my crash I had a concussion & bleeding in the brain. I was in ICU for 2 days and then told to stay at home from work for 1 week. I also was told not to do anything to raise my heart rate for 6 weeks. And--I never had a headache at all. But I, too, couldn't remember the crash or anything that happened for the next few hours. Please let your doctor check you out.
Susan
um, has anyone heard from Suzie since the weekend?
Hey ladies,
Thanks for all the concern ,but I'm really fine. My hand is bruised ,but the swelling is down ,and I can bend them in ALL directions...the same with my elbow. No headache, dizziness etc....I have to have a brain MRI next month anyway ,so ill have them check for any bleeding. My brother is a Orthopedic Surgeon on hands ,but I forgot to mention this to him. He lives in Denver...Ill ask. I have no major pains...just a bit beat up. I think it sounds worse than it was...I took a couple of nasty falls ,but I'm tuff. The helmet saved me. REALLY!!!! Don't let my stories scare any of you ladies from going clipless.....you have to fall a couple of times...I just did everything all at once.
Ill let you know how I do on my 40, or 18 miles Charity ride this weekend.......Haven't decided which one yet,The 40 mile one is all huge hills.
Thanks again ,and please don't worry about me.![]()
Maureen...how is that saddle. After 26 miles on Sunday , I hurt a bit.
Oh ,and yes I will call my neurosurgeon tomorrow ,and tell him about the fall ,and let him tell me what to do...Ok. So please dont worry.
Yikes Susie, sound like you took a beating. I hope you continue to be ok. I would echo what a lot are saying about head injuries though. My DH was in a car accident before we met and had a closed head injury (I know worse than what you had) and was comatose for 6 weeks, he has permanent brain injury and some things he will have difficulty for the remainder of his life.
Now I think I know what you mean about the foot drag as you unclip even though "technically" I'm not "clipped in" on the Navigator I do have toe straps. When I get ready to come to a stop I "clip out" of my left foot and have it to the side and lowered so I'm ready when I'm stopped to have a leg to stand on. I know a lot of people clip in and out on the right so it's of course a personal thing about what side it is, but if I understand you it's for when you stop you are ready to "lean" that direction and your foot is already closer to the ground am I right?
When I'm waiting at the light or whatever reason for stoppage, I raise my still "strapped in" foot up so I'm ready to push off and start pedal. When I start riding I flip the pedal and quickly slip my left foot back into the strap much I would think like you would "clip back in"
I'm hoping that by having ridden with the toe straps that even though it's going to be an adjustment of the actual clipping in and out that I'll be used to pulling one foot on and off the pedal when stopping and other than a cleat hang up, maybe less likely to fall right away (at least I hope so)
Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches
