    SRAM cassettes

Anyone got any opinions on SRAM cassettes? I like the idea of an 11-26. (And I need something that is Shimano compatible.)

    Thanks

I'll never buy another SRAM freewheel, but that's a moot point because they quit making freewheels a couple years ago. And my problems with their freewheel are irrelevant to their production of cassettes, so maybe I shouldn't bother posting this. But if it's relevant to their quality control in general, then maybe it is somewhat relevant, so judge for yourself.

I bought a brand-new SRAM freewheel (13-23 or something like that) maybe 4 years ago. From the time I got it, it would freewheel forward about 1/4 turn every time I stopped and started again. I suspected they either used 2 palls instead of the usual 4 or had too few notches for the palls or some major design flaw. But after less than a year, the problems with the freewheel got worse, so it would slip forward even further each time I stopped and restarted. Even if I coasted while pedaling, it would not catch immediately when I started pedaling again. I tried oiling it, I tried soaking it in solvent, nothing changed it's behaviour. I had to junk it.
Oil is good, grease is better.

I use SRAM cassette on my mt bike and like it -- durable and no shifting problems between cogs. Consider weight and use when deciding what cassette and buy what config you need -- SRAM is good.
