    August 23rd rides here!

Usual commute this morning. Nice and cool. Saw a couple other commuters out, two with headlights, one without. Water bottle cage is loose and the rattle is driving me nuts! I will have to fix that before the ride home tonight!

I have a terrible record for "gotta take care of that before the ride home." New batteries in the light... it's been two weeks now and that poor thing is barely a glimmer. TOday, I MEAN IT!!

7.2 mile commute in. Not one other cyclist (bummer), but one very confused squirrel (Eeeek, That's not a car!!! Which way do I run? Which way do I run?? ).
I had a black and white cat cross my path. Does that mean I'll have so-so luck on the ride home this evening???

The wind is my enemy today!

Starting out on my ride today, the wind seemed rather chilly. But as I climbed the four mile climb, it disappeared and let me sweat out the climb. Boy was it hot! I would have given anything for a breeze during that climb. Reached the summit and went into a scary descent (ok, I'm a downhill chicken ) It was ten percent grades with a sharp dropoff on the side. That's when the breeze decided to come back as a gusty crosswind! Nothing like getting blown sideways into traffic when you're doing 40 to 50 mph! Then it was back to the flats where the wind decides it would be fun to become a stiff headwind. Got much more of a workout today than expected, all thanks to the wind.

    Does cross training count?

Catching up from yesterday I stopped at the dojo for an hour class. Good class, teacher is just back from Japan.

Oy vey, that means almost everything will change.

Today at lunch I did a spin class, new teacher for me, good teacher! She does stuff that helps you on a bike. Whata concept. Recognised a rider from the AIDS ride in class (team pig I think) and we have two training for the Death Ride. I'll be back for this Wednesday class.

Was going to ride for the first time in over two weeks and I locked myself out of the house. Grrr.

Eventually got on the bike for a short ride around 3:00 when it was almost 100 degrees.

Rode to the post office, navigated after school traffic (forgot about that!) and ended hot and sweaty from a very short 3 mile ride --

But I was grinning from ear to ear.

    Tomorrow?

    Much earlier! And farther!

I rode my little blue bike to school and after finishing up some paperwork on my desk I headed out to ride some familiar roads. I quickly settled into a nice pace and was able to maintain it. I rode 25 miles today and ended up with an average speed of 16.5 mph. It was yet another beautiful day in Kentucky - temps in mid-80's, low humidity levels, no breeze and very sunny skies - this is great and everyone is wishing it would last until October.

Rode my commute home last night. (I always end up posting a day late because I don't take my laptop home on bike commute days!)

Totally uneventful...pace was good, just shy of 17mph. Way more traffic than usual, even though I left a little later. Weird.
