Good watch for swimming?

I have a Polar HRM that I use for running and biking, but I don't think I can take it in the pool. I bought a Timex watch a while back that I took on our cruise last year and went swimming with it and it died! I thought it was supposed to be waterproof, but apparently not.

So does anyone have any suggestions for a good waterproof watch for swim workouts?? Thanks in advance!

Ohhh - so Polars can go in the water??? I guess after my Timex crapped out on me I am afraid to put my HRM in the water in case the same thing happens.

I have a Timex Expedition (men's) with an analog face and the digital window at the 6 o'clock position. I've swum in it lots of times with the chrono running, and it works great. I've also accidentally put it through the washing machine. Got it for $14 through Camp-Mor.

I have noticed that the men's watch handles water much better than my women's Expedition. The women's never sealed quite right after the battery was changed. (But it still worked. I got tired of pulling the back off and leaving it out to dry, though.)

Replaced the Timex strap with a Silverfoot mini-clip strap ($8). Very comfortable.

All my watches for the last 20 years or so (except my diving watch, which died a miserable salty death) have been Timexes. Usually various styles of Expedition. There are different water-resistance ratings. If you still have the one that leaked, try contacting Timex for a replacement.

It's supposedly good to 100 meters (we'll find out on my dive trip in a few weeks) but what I really like is that the numbers are HUGE so I can see them in the pool when I don't have my glasses on.

And it's only $10!

I have an old Timex Ironman that I bought on the streets of NY and it has never ever failed me in the pool. I loved it so much I bought DH one and he passes over his rollie for it!

I have also worn my Polar in the pool and lake, with no issues.

Now if I could just remember to start the thing, I wouldn't be sitting at the end of my workout going "wow, that felt good, I wonder how long... DOH!"

I have worn my Timex heart rate monitor in the water with no problems. I hate fussing with the lap buttons, though, so I just bought one of those SportCount ring timers that goes over your finger. I haven't tried it in the pool, yet, because I just received it.

I have the Timex Ironman Triathlon, which I got on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...15312?ie=UTF8). I wear it to count laps when swimming (it also does split times, up to 50 laps). The pros are that it is lightweight and the buttons are easy to use, and I think it's really cute. The clock and timer are easy to see while running or biking. It isn't the greatest for swimming, however; first, because to push the split button I have to pause in my swimming for a second; and second, because while the times are in large numbers, the lap number is very small, so I have to stop swimming if I want to check what lap I'm on. It does lots of fancy things involving saving split times or workout times for later and other functions, but I have never tried to learn how to do those things!
