Went better than I expected! The swim wasn't the sardine can I feared, although there were more than a few zig-zaggers in the water! I posted the race report over where it belongs, and I look forward to hearing Brina's reaction, especially to the congestion in the Olympic swim.
Yay! Now, at 5 PM, I'm started to stiffen up, and I think I'd like some ice on my left knee. That pesky patellar tendon has finally decided to give me trouble; I knew it would happen sometime ... then it's off for celebratory ice cream sundaes tonight!

Great job!
I was volunteering at the swim start - I thought the swim lane was a bit narrow but it didn't take long for the pack to drift according to skill. I'm glad the rain held off as best it could. Eventually turned out to be a great day.
Congrats! You athletes received a beautiful medal.

Bella, make sure you read Lynne and Brina's reports in the Race Reports board. Thank you for volunteering--it makes all the difference in a race. I'll bet it was great fun to volunteer, too!

I just read their race reports and I can totally sympathize with their tales - mostly the tough-on-the-feet run from swim finish to the Transition area.
Although the athletes might be too nervous to notice, I thought the announcers in the booth up above the swim start were cool about making the atmosphere comfortable, they interacted with the swimmers in the chute, and really did make it a fun and exciting place to be.
From my perspective (I was at the staircase into the water), the water was relatively clean for being in a harbor. I saw very little seaweed and either I got used to it or the dead fish smell hadn't awoken yet...
Given my own events this summer, I was more than happy to watch and let others have their day in the sun!

Thanks so much for volunteering! I think the volunteers were great, and I sure do rely on the volunteer water and cheering in the run especially! And given the nature of the swim exit, having people there to haul me out of the water was greatly appreciated.
I agree that the swim start guys did a good job with the banter. Local TV anchor Dina Bair was in wave 10, and I was in 14, so I was in the chute while he was bantering with her and it was very funny.
