    Arghhh... so annoying

I spent almost the entire trip in Nova Scotia with a nasty headache and my right eye swollen from who knows what.

During the five days I spent in Maine with family after the trip, all the symptoms were getting better. I actually felt "normal" this past weekend.

This morning the headache is back and the eye is starting to swell. I'm off to the doc as soon as I can get an appointment. I'm pretty convinced the two are related. But don't ask me how.

I was planning on riding 70 miles of the Mount Tam Double course today. Maybe tomorrow...

Today... a date with Coach Troy I guess... after the doctor visit.

If I get an afternoon appointment, then I can do a short outside ride here this morning. We're expecting a high of 99 today (down from 107 yesterday) and after my weird experience riding in the heat on Sunday, I think an afternoon outside ride will not be wise.

I've never thought about cycling in Alberta. I had to look at a map to see where exactly it was. But I'm up for anyplace that is pretty and the people are nice. I REALLY enjoyed the tour of NS and plan on doing more self supported touring. So many places I want to go...

Good luck with the doc today, V. I hope you find the cause, or at least get on the path to finding it. I'll be thinking of you. L.

I was just wondering how your eye was as I was checking out your Nova Scotia pix (very nice, by the way). Sorry to hear that it is still bothering you. I hope you can get it sorted once and for all with this appointment.

DD, thanks for the reminder to go check out the Nova Scotia pix!

V--what wonderful pictures. They don't convey the misery of rain and mosquitos at all. (I just wrote that word "mosquitoes", Dan Quayle style ) Beautiful pictures. Is it possible to be homesick for a place I've never lived? NS is such a prominent part of the family history on my Mom's side that I feel like I'm "from" there, too. Thanks for showing its beauty.

I was tickled to see Rose and Clyde all over, too! What's the name of their cousin who lives with Yellow and Pika? I've met that one!

    V,
I hope you are able to get an appointment today and that it is nothing serious, easily managed, and does not interfer with your riding.

    Maybe I'm neurotic...

because now I feel fine and there's no swelling at all.

Of course I just rode up Diablo to the Junction - came close to setting a personal best, even though at the Junction it was 94 degrees in the shade.

I had planned on riding 72 miles in Marin. But being so far away, on my own, and not being confident about my health and how I'm reacting to the heat, made it really easy to find excuses to not drive over there.

It was a good ride up the mountain. They're repairing the Summit Road, so you can only get to the Junction. There was almost no traffic and very few other riders. It was good to see that 94 degrees did not cause my blood to rush through my ears or make me feel lightheaded, like 107 did on Sunday.

V - I'm glad the swelling went down again. Was there any pattern to the swelling like Nanci suggested? That might help the doc diagnose. Hmmmm.... At least it's gone for now. I'm heading to check out the pix now.

So are you going to the doctor to try to figure this out? If it is a recurring issue, you should go to the doctor.

    V~

You should go anyway, even if all seems better. When you sleep, fluids build up and that's probably why it went down later in the day. I would describe the issue to doc then if they don't find anything, make an appt for asap early in the morning.

I had some eye issues for a while and it turned out it was an allergy thing... doesn't seem to be coming back though thankfully.

Please let us know what happens!

Since both the headache and swelling are gone now, I'm not going to go today.

But... I am going to go should the dratted things come back. This morning I documented what happened each day on the trip, so that I could take that in to the doc, including the swelling this morning.

This is what I have health insurance for, right?

It probably couldn't hurt to take some benadryl before bed. Still sounds like an allergy to me.
