My favorite TDF quote thus far

Phil, Paul and the others say things the crack me up. This is my favorite so far-

Phil talking about Liquigas rider Magnus Backstedt, who is 6'3" and 205 lbs. Magnus was in a breakaway and it was going down a slight incline and he flew by the other, smaller riders in the breakway.

"Unfortunately for Maggie, what goes down must go up."

Since I am nearly 6 feet tall, have about 30 more lbs to lose and encounter hills on a regular basis, I completely understand.

Any of the rest of you miss David Duffield?

His best in my book was this. The camera was panning round the crowd and he saw Eric Zabel's wife and kid. So he commented about how "Eric Zabel's wife comes whatever position her husband is in "

both of those stories are great! I really want to get the book "Dancing on the Pedals: The Found Poetry of Phil Liggett"... it's on my "to read" list...

I have to say... I named my Pug after Magnus Backstedt... LOL... I heard the name Magnus and just thought it would be a great name for a Pug... fortunately I'm sure "Maggie" will never find out some crazy woman named her dog after him...

    Floyd Landis

In the articles about Floyd posted elsewhere on these boards, he comes out with some brilliant quotations!

"he takes exception when other riders suggest that he might be peaking too early for the Tour
("Peaking too early? What is that, Chinese? Let me translate: Blah-blah-****ing-blah") "

I nearly spouted coffee all over my keyboard!

"Landis yell(ed) "Discover this!" after beating Armstrong in a time trial. "

The name is the destiny... Magnus Backstedt .... wouldn't that translate to large backside or something? What's his real name?

I loved "Discover THIS!" Glad they've made their peace.
