Rode for the first time with the local club. I slacked off because of traveling, etc. and then was afraid I'd never be able to hang on. We did about 24 miles total, with a coffee stop at the end. I was able to stay with the pack and break off for the last sprint which was at about 26mph. I guess all the gradual training I've been doing on my own while commuting has paid off. I was told I "passed the test" so I guess I'm in the club nowThere was another woman on the ride, which was nice considering my old club was all men except for me. It was a nice group, sort of wish I'd gotten out sooner in the summer to ride with them. Oh well, lots of time left.

I rode this morning with my hubby - our usual 22 mile ride. We both were quite tires and a bit inconsistent. Couple of times I pushed and help 28-30 mph and then dropped all the way to 13. It was abit hard to recover. The air is getting really bad in Phoenix and it is hard to push air through the lungs. But at least we are peddling.
I got an early start, even though it's my day off. I wanted to register for the Amtrak century, which usually closes the same day. Did about 20 miles with a lot of hill climbs. It was fun, if exhausting. I did see a coyote. I firs thought it was deer, as he was scoping me out, but then I got a good look at its ears.
OCW's website (the club that runs the Amtrak century), is not working right now, It won't take a credit card registration, so I'm going to mail. Was gong to ride some to my YTD mileage up to 3800, but spent too long on Amtrak. I 'm supposed to be supposed to be in San Bernardnio at noon to discuss doing some part time for a friend. I'd like to see it come through, as it sound quite neat and would be a feather in my cap, but he is more bark than bite. At least I get a free lunch at the Indian Casino out of it.
I took my Giro out this morning and simply rode around my parent's little town. I made several big loops through town, around the park and my parent's subdivision. All in all I got in 22.2 miles at a very slow 13.4 mph. I'm feeling more comfortable on my recumbent and I know with time my average speeds will slowly climb.

I wanted to take advantage of the last day of the gate being closed on a road here that leads to some nice riding (which means I wanted to take advantage of the whole "no people" situation), so I rode my mtn bike up the closed road to a nice little singletrack loop. Beautiful morning and lots of flowers. The columbine here have much longer spurs than the Tahoe version:
And the penstemon is sooo very blue.
I don't wanna go to work. I just want to ride.![]()
Ooh, can I come? Those are spectacular photos.
In a week or so, I should have pics of the sunflower fields here. Always know its TdF time because the sunflowers are coming into full bloom. Part of my vicarious thrills as I watch.

I went on a group ride today (21.6 miles), the second time I've gone on this particular ride. I liked it last week because the pace was perfect for me and usually I fall in between the medium and fast riders in a lot of other places. Well, today, the leader said we were going for an "urban" ride. I totally freaked. In reality, the ride took us through the next to Boston suburb where I grew up, but this _is_ urban riding to me. I was hyper vigilant and stayed in the back, until we got about half way through and we were in my old neighborhood. What i notice about these rides is that they go out fast and then except for maybe 2-4 people, they fall back, especially on the climbs. So, by the end I was in the front. I was thanking myself for living in a hilly area, because i was able to drop all of these men! About .5 mile before the end, a woman on the ride hit a large gardening truck as we were creeping up to a light at a busy intersection. This is just what I like to avoid. i would have had the people all take the lane. She was fine, but cut and bleeding. Really, this is a trip leaders's nightmare.
But, I survived and the leader said she will not do this type of route again...
Oh, yes! Nothing wrong with a little eye candy for the morning ride!Originally Posted by yellow

Just my commute so far today. Saw 3 of the other "regulars" on their commutes, and a new chickie who I waved at cheerfully and shouted "good morning" to. Hopefully she'll keep it up! She had a nice trunk box thingy on her rack, so I'm thinking she's serious.

Yellow, what spectacular pictures! Thanks.
38.5 miles on the trail today. Clear, sunny, high 70s. Already, a little too warm for me. What a wienie. Ate gnats, saw a bald eagle fly right down the river next to the trail, quite low. Herons. Sweat (mine). Nice ride.
I love post-ride showers.
Yellow! Nice to hear from you! Is the road you mentioned the one you and I walked on? How's Ms. Pika doing? Great photos.L.
