    Welcome to the boards!

Everybody is different in their reactions to SSRI's. Know that it often takes 2-4 weeks to begin to feel better. Hang in there!

My personal reaction was that I was a bit more thirsty & needed to carry more water on my bike. Your initial reactions may disappear over time, as your body gets used to the drug. If you cannot handle a particular reaction, talk to you doc about lowering the dosage and increasing slowly. Also, remember that if prozac doesn't work, there are a lot of other antidepressants on the market.

If you are experiencing depression, it is important to handle that now. Racing will always be there for you. This is not to say that you cannot do both - you absolutely can. But, it is about priorities.

One word of warning ... If you feel depressed while ON the prozac, just remember that it's the drug's fault, not yours! Sometimes it doesn't work. Sometimes it makes you feel worse. If so, then see your doctor and change your treatment regime. Do not blame yourself and do not give up.

My best friend is on anti depressents. She has been sence the birth of her last child 9 years ago. I am sad for her that she has to be on them but they do seem to help her. She switched from prozac a couple years ago cause her labido was low. She is much happier now. But everyone is different on them. She run's and bikes and swims and does yoga. and as far as I can tell the activity really helps her!. So don't stop! Just remeber like mentioned earlier just keep an eye out for changes and if it bugs you tell your Dr. Like dogmama said there is a lot out there now which is good. You will find something if this doesn't work for you. But it might be exactly what works for you too! hang in there and stay focused on feeling better!

i use to be on some antidepressants a few years ago and found that they didn't work for me. i changed my diet around and started working out more and had amazing results.

like the other girls said just keep an eye out how you personally are feeling. take it easy at first and see how things are working. also, don't be afraid to discuss with your dr if its not working out for you. i went through a bunch of different drugs before one worked for me somewhat. i was a bit intimidated talking to my dr about changing but she was all about helping me and what worked out for me.

Starting on antidepressants last fall changed my life. I take cymbalta and was lucky enough that it works -- I didn't have to try different kinds.

I promise you I wouldn't have this bike and be on this forum asking about it if I hadn't started the meds. There's nothing to feel sad about somebody taking them -- the real tragedy would be if they weren't available.

Needing antidepressants is like needing insulin. Some of us have chemical imbalances and need the meds!
