    Right watch, at last

Let's start by acknowledging that I own ... (counting) ... 8 watches. Two stretchy band ones for work (easy to rip off wrist and shove in pocket when baby's coming). One white leather banded one that is totally a nursing watch, which has its advantages, but I don't like unbuckling and buckling it when said baby's coming. Three sort of dressy ones--red, black, silver. One really dressy one, gold. Polar HR monitor (huge, plastic). Despite being 5'8", I have tiny wrists. Most watches are too big for me. I don't like digital, it's always going on the fritz or beeping for some alarm I didn't know I set and can't figure out how to turn off. So. Dilemma: What to wear when riding?

Metal watches sort of corrode with the salt and dirt. I need them for work, and despite looking dorky, they're expensive. Polar HR watch is too big unless I'm using the HRM.

I bought a $14 Timex at Target that is perfect. Analog--just a plain old clock face. Velcro band. Fits my delicate wrist without flipping around. Some kind of webbing fabric--doesn't get all sweaty and wierd. Woohoo! Watch happiness! Now I own 9, and I believe I can stop already!!!

I got the perfect watch a couple months ago. I have a ton of watches, too. Expensive dive watch. A bunch of chronos. A ocuple heart rate monitor watches. four pretty silver bracelet watches. A nice gold dress watch. A big green fake alligator watch that BF calls Flava Flave. I don't really get it. They all have one thing in common- dead batteries.

New watch- Citizen Eco-Drive. Solar-(or any light) powered. Holds a charge in pitch dark for eight months. Stainless steel loose bracelet, Swarovski crystals along the edges. I love it. I even wear it to work and on my bike!

Beloved Timex. Takes a lickin' keeps on tickin'.

My current Timex is an Expedition analog with digital stuff in a little window around the 6 o'clock position. Timer, chrono, alarm, date, digital time. Everything I need and not too much extra.

I have it on a Silverfoot web strap with a flat plastic clicky-buckle.

    Happy happy, joy joy.

Flava Flav. I have seen more of this guy than you would think, what with working a lot of night shifts. Like the proverbial train wreck. Hard to avert eyes. The picture above is quite subdued for the Flav-meister.

If something is on cheesy TV in the middle of the night, I might know about it. Primetime? Nope. Think I can get on some alert system for when last season's 24 comes out on DVD?

Nanci, your new watch sounds so cool. Will you post a picture? Thx. L.

    Which? Ecodrive or Flava Flave?

I _am_ very happy with the ecodrive. I don't usually spend so much on a watch- but I just wanted to be free from batteries. I'm not going to wear it in water, though. Every time I look at it, I think "Here's one watch that will _never_ go dead on me!"
