    Oak Park LBS?

    Hi, gals,

My sister's informed me that my dear BIL wants a bike for his birthday ! I don't know what he's looking for, but I thought I'd get him a gift certificate to an LBS in their area as a starter.

Any recommendations for an Oak Park LBS? They live on the north east corner of town.

    Thanks! Lise

There's a database of bike shops in the Chicagoland area:

I've had decent luck with the guys at Lickton's, however their selection is limited.

There's also REI in Oakbrook too.

Not exactly in Oak Park, but there is a great LBS in St. Charles called The Bike Rack. I live 2 1/2 hours away and consider them my LBS

    Hey Lise

I just went LBS hunting the other day in Oak Park. I did go by Licktons, and their selection is rather small. They seem to be more of a components/parts type shop. It's very bare bones in there. They did have some bikes, but again not many. The guy referred me over to another place on North Ave, a few blocks west of Oak Park Ave. They definitely had more bikes, including some old skool looking things.

    Barnard's Schwinn

I haven't been here but found it on yahoo yellow pages:

    Oak Park Cyclery
1113 Chicago Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302 (almost into River Forest)
    Phone: (708) 524-2453

They don't appear to have a website (how low tech).

Then there's Dan's bike shop, which I haven't been in, in Berwyn on Roosevelt:

If you have time to buy your gift certificate, I can swing by OPC and Dan's in the next few days and scope them out if you'd like.

Thanks so much, beta! I do have time--his b'day's at the end of the month. I would love it if you could check out OPC and Dan's for me. If not, no big, but if you can, great.

My sister just wrote me and said, "Oh just get him something to Sportmart". I wrote her back about why it really would be nice to have a relationship with an LBS.

Now I'm going back to bed. Food is staying in me now, but I am weak as a kitten. Working tonight...sleeping now. L.
