    My first ride!

It's been a long wait...I got her on Saturday and I've had no way to take her out until today when my dh was off of work and could watch the kids. I excitedly picked my daughter up from school, dropped her off at home with dh and off I drove! I parked by the Santa Ana River trail which is less than a mile from my house. I'm not quite ready to contend with traffic yet and the route from my house to the trail has no bike lanes so I decided to play it safe. I took the trail down to the beach (about two miles) and then decided to head to Bolsa Chica instead of Newport so I would be riding against the wind to start with. I stopped only when I hit the end of the bike path where Bolsa Chica State Beach ends, and there I took a couple of minutes to eat a banana and drink some water. I couldn't wait to get back on my bike! The ride back went by so quickly and it was over far too soon. I had gone 21.6 miles and I was yearning for more. It took all my strength to not cross the bridge and just keep on riding up the river trail, but I quickly remembered my dh's promise to take our almost 8 year old and his friend to play laser tag as a birthday treat, so I headed down the hill, to my truck and back home to slip back into my motherly duties.

I'm on such a high right now. I want more, more, more and can't wait to get out there again!! Thanks for answering all of my newbie questions, I'm sure that I'll have more. I'm hooked and you're not going to be able to get rid of me!

    Thumbs up Nice!

Congrats on your first ride, Brandy! Sounds like you did a good distance, and had a great time too. It's a nice feeling, isn't it?
Best wishes for many many more miles!

    ~Sherry.

BTW- I'm guessing your Huntington Beach is the one south of L.A.? I learned to surf there in the 70's...I still have happy memories of your area.

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

Happy Mother's Day tomorrow! Hmmm ... I wonder what you've wished for.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Thanks everyone! I'm aiming for 30 miles on Friday in honor of my 30th birthday. Just need to find a sitter for the kiddos
