What a fun idea Sue! That inspired me to do a little web search on bicycle-powered options. It seems like a great idea to harness the energy created. I saw info on powering Ipods and cell phones. It would be nice to at least pedal-recharge my light batteries.

The students at the university where I work have a Campus Center for Appropriate technology with some GREAT examples set up at their house of pedal power; this is from their website: http://www.humboldt.edu/~ccat/pedalpower/inventions/frames_final_htm..htm
You can even see our college president working the cycle generators during an event!
There's a sewing machine, grinder, drill press, tv/vcr and wringer washer. I personally like the "Concert Generator." Bart, with the Solar cooker, sets up at the food coop pretty regularly--and it seems to work great.Last edited by wabisabi; 04-07-2006 at 12:44 PM.
