    Got My OCR1

I picked up my 2005 OCR1 yesterday... yay! I went for a 12 mile ride... the winds were pretty fierce, like 20mph. I haven't ridden much since the fall. And, this is my first roadbike. And my first experience with clipless pedals. Not bad...

My neck didn't get sore during the ride... My feet got tingly, so I made sure to keep wiggling them. My lower back was achy toward the end. My upper back between the shoulders aches today. And my bum is a little sore today. I rode my hybrid to work after lunch. Not bad though...

    YAY!!

    Congrats, Hammer! I love my OCR1 (it's a 2005, too)!
Too bad it was so windy for your first ride. Sounds like you did a good job and had fun anyway.

Congratulations on the new bike! It may take a little adjusting to get it just the way you like it, but I'm sure you will love it. Enjoy!
The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.

Congrats on the new bike! May the 2 of you have many miles together!!

    Got any pixs yet?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

yeah! congrats on the new ride!

my feet used to get tingly too... someone mentioned that your feet swell as you warm up (for me about 10 miles in)... and to just loosen the straps a bit... works like a charm... may want to try that if it continues! Happy riding...

So far so good. The first ride went fine. But the next day I was having some issues getting clipped in. The harder I tried, the more difficult it became.

Then I went for a ride on Sat. It was only 12 miles, and I didn't really have any trouble clicking in, but I almost tipped over twice.

The first time I was preparing to turn around at a bridge. I slowed down, the shoulder was wide enough to begin a turn, I knew there was one car. I was going to wait slowly and try not to have to stop, but there was a second car right behind the first. I panicked, worked on stopping so I wouldn't proceed into traffic, I did manage to get my left foot out in time and my bike tipped and the momentum carried it down anyway. I got my right foot out too, so I just ended up setting the bike down. It was kind of embarrassing.

Then I was pulling up to my house, I probably waited too long to unclip my left foot. But, momentum carried me to the right. I thought that was going to be a problem. I was able to set my left foot down and my right popped out. Set the bike down then too. :|

So, I've decided that it's probably best for me to unclip everytime I arrive at a stop sign and times when I make direction changes and unclip well before I actually come to a complete stop at destinations, etc.

Oh, I told my mom and boyfriend about these instances... Probably not excellent ideas. I was wearing a helmet. I'm sure I'll probably fall over sometime.

Hills make me a little nervous going down. Uneven sections of road make me nervous too sometimes. I'm trying to avoid loose rock, etc... it's nearly impossible sometimes.

No, I don't have any photos yet. Sorry!

Hammer- If your shoulder and your sit bones are bothering you, you may need to do some more adjusting. Be sure you are sensitive to your body- it is telling you something through the aches. As you go longer distances you will notice this more.

Enjoy your new bike! Isn't it a great feeling to be on a road bike!!!!

icing arm & trying to increase left hand dexterity

Well, i was gonna go for another ride yesterday. Got 3 blocks down the street. Instead of turning left onto one street and immediately turning left onto another (less than half block) I cross the small gas station parking lot and wait 4 traffic.

My left foot is unclipped and on solid ground. Straight ahead of me is a curb, cant ride over it. To the right is ped crosswalk ramp thing and to the left is a driveway enterance. I scoot myself left and forward so i can see if anything is driving up the hill. But something happened to make me tip right. I should've unclipped that foot too, but wanted to be able to take off right o way. Going down I think I tried not to put my arm out, but did and I knew it'd suck.

I heard a pop, thought i'd jammed my elbow. It hurt. My head didnt make contact but I couldnt pop back up beyond just sitting up. I felt nauseous. Two girls saw it and helped me get my bike home and took me in to the hospital clinic. I had to wait awhile. Then in the examinig room I cried, the pain was bearable and the nausea went away, but I was finally thinking about it and felt stupid.

Xrays sucked. It was discouraging to not have rapid mobility. The CPN wasnt positive that i broke my arm, but there were indicators. So she casted me anyway and will have a radiologist read the images. I'm right handed.

I havent checked on my bike yet. I broke its fall.

WEird thing is, a couple weeks ago I thought that I had a spur on the side of my foot, so i thought that would ground me for a bit. Then i go and goober up my arm 1 week after getting a new bike. I want to ride! must reconsider attack.

Well I broke it... Cast for 10 more days, then it comes off for an xray and the plan is to brace it with a sling then for 4 more weeks. According to the lady anyway.

I asked about level of activity... and I believe I asked regarding jogging/walking... she said whatever I felt comfortable with, sweat wont make a lot of difference, its going to stink anyway (I plan to walk a lot but was curious about the hygeinr factor).

I'll probably still refrain from jogging for awhile... that jarring makes me nervous and what if i fell again.

Definately not getting on bike... maybe a stationary one sooner than later...

Blah! At least my MS150 ride that I signed up for isnt until Aug... I had hoped to manage a 5k in May, but I've been having a tough time jogging 2 straight miles... so a set back it is.

Ouch! I'm sending more healing wishes your way. Not being able to ride your new bike has to be a real bummer...

Hammer! I opened this thread to congratulate you on your new baby - and find you can't ride it!

Feeling gutted for you, and wishing you extraordinarily fast healing...

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

Well, I liked it so far... it's just tougher than I... It broke me in before I broke it in... It has a few abrasions though.

I'll get back on it... just have to form a new plan so as not to get whipped. Thanks for the well wishes. There are other ladies mending wounds around here... good luck to all.

I just bought a gift certificate to an ice cream shop that I intend to pass along to the nice girls who helped me after the tip over.
