Talking SURPRISE! My son got me a NEW bike...

    Hello,

Remember me shopping for an upright bike due to neck problems? Well...I was just at the Cherry Pie race in Eugene, OR to watch my son, who was racing for his FIRST time. He came in 4th place btw- I was so proud of him...

Anyways, he really knows his bikes. He's built 2 of the 4 that he rides and he was keeping his eyes out for one for me too. He tricked me BIG TIME, as he told me at bike races, there would be lots to demo there...and since I've never been to a bike race I fell for it... I brought my tights and helmet and when we met up with him he told me he had a surprise for me. I waited outside of the motel and he rolls out a brand new Schwinn Super Sport LE with straight bars! Plus some Shimano shoes! My eyes were ready to pop out of my head and I all I could do was fight back my tears!!! He had his trainer there so I could try it out right then. WOW! What a difference from my other bike! It's fits PERFECT!!! I haven't gotten to ride it on the road yet, due to the snow, so I have it parked in my LR. I feel like a kid! LOL!

Now, I need your help in learning to ride and maintain this road bike, as I rode a MTB hybrid before and all I did was ride it. I know nothing mechanically.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

P.S. Do I have a wonderful son or what?!

Congratulations and much luck. I can't think of a more special bike to own in more ways than one.

    oh that is just AWESOME!!!

as to maintenance... does your local LBS offer "beginner" classes? I know our Trek Store has a bike class that teaches how to change a flat, use a patch kit, put on a dropped chain, clean the chain, adjust the derailleurs... hmmm... probably more but that's what I remember! LOL... if not... go to your local LBS and ask the mechanics if they'll show ya the basics...

biker nerds love to talk about bike stuff!!! and therefore here I am! LOL

congrats on the bike... very happy for you...
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
