Gave up now I am back

I got my felt verza path 1 last year. I had it and rode it very little. I tried to sell it and it wont sell. Not for lack of trying. I was having a hard time getting into this because of no other riders. I had given up and switched over to my flatland BMX bike I do love it and I do love doing tricks on it but it has nothing on me riding 6 miles. I know its only 6 miles. But I now need help because its been almost a year and well I have my bike home. I am wanting to find some local females to ride with that will do a few rides with me as a beginner. I also need some advice. IS my Verza path an ok for something if I get to that point of longer bike trips???

I don't have any advice on the actual riding since I ride on the road, but I can relate with not having anyone to ride with. I lived in MI, FL and now back in OH and it seemed no matter where I was, I was always just over an hour away from any groups or even just individual riders. I'm a solitary person most of the time, but having someone to ride with to help improve skills and just pass the time sometimes would be nice. Have you looked for local groups? And 6 miles is good, after my third son I was proud of myself just for riding 5 on a trainer inside and every milestone is something to be excited about. Compare your progress to you, not anyone else and be happy about every mile further. :-)

Nothing wrong with 6 miles! I ride by myself most of the time - have you considered riding solo in parks or on lightly traveled roads? I taught myself how to ride on empty country roads - but I had the ability to drive my car out to a semi-rural area that a lot of cyclists frequent which means the drivers are accustomed to riders.

My partner just got that exact bike. I don't see any reason why you can't do longer rides on it. I also think it's fine for groomed trails. It has 38mm tires.

Group rides can be fun, but they can also be frustrating. You might try meetup to see if there are any groups in your area.

Thats good to here.. I have not found anyone else with a bike like mine. I live in a somewhat big city. I am hoping this weekend I will be able to try a few hills. In order to get to the bike path without taking my car you have you ride some hills and they are big hills. I am also hoping to put something together here locally. There is something called a photo walk every year. Its just like it sounds you take photos as you walk. I was thinking of a photo ride. Where you ride and find some hidden spots that maybe you couldn't find on foot. That and with a bike you can ride further.

If you're in a somewhat big city you might try and see if your local bike shops have rides, many do and it's a good place to meet other riders. That's a fine bike you have for what you are trying to accomplish and don't knock 6 miles, that's a good ride and something great to build on.

kziggy, I know how you feel without anyone to ride with. Just keep getting out there and building on those miles. 6 miles are an excellent start! And the other posters advice is good. Ask at any bike shops or look for meetups if you can find any.

Excellent idea! Stopping to take pics while biking is a lot of fun.

And taking pics is a great way to use the bike for something else. It's to help expand your world.

Thank you everyone I was at my bike shop tonight picking my bike and this lovely lady introduced herself and said anytime I wanted to ride she would be glad to ride with me or I could tag along

I am hoping for the first voyage of the season I am able to go out tonight. Thinking a small two or three mile voyage. Next thing to buy is padded shorts. I have my helmet my gloves and lights. I can't wait to get off work.

I did almost three miles tonight I was not tired but had to get home to put my daughter to bed felt good maybe Another ride tomorrow night

I rode my bike outside yesterday for the first time in about a year. I have been riding but at the gym which we all know is totally not the same. I could feel the difference between riding outside and riding inside. I definitely had to push a little harder. I did ten miles and feel pretty good about that. I think I will try again tonight.

Congrats!!! Sometimes, we just don't want to do somehthing. Always better to take a break when that happens.

Thanks! I'm in Charleston. I didn't think I was sore until I took my bike out yesterday then my butt and my legs let me know that I was very sore. So yesterday was much slower than the previous evening but i did manage to bike for an hour always pedaling.
