Five years ago when I turned 60 , with the usual flowers and a lovely dinner out, cards from the kids, a few emails and or texts from biking friends and a good 60 mile ride to celebrate, I decided that #65 would have to be something a little more. I stated to family that what I really wanted was a Trek Madone 6.5, customized. Based on the lack of response other than "huh?" I started saving my shekels. For the past five years I have been devotedly couponing groceries and putting the money saved, and my spare change, between that and the very kind live in father in law whom added 300 dollars a month to my budgeted " self " money for the 18 months he was with us towards the Madone.
Today I placed my order for a Trek Project One Madone 6.5, customized paint job included. Not only that, but I have some money left over to upgrade or bling as needed, or maybe buy a matching bike outfit or two as well as pay for the various charity rides I want to do for the rest of the year.
Now to wait the 52-60 days until it arrives.

Wow! That's such an inspiration in so many ways. I bet that feels amazing to have been working towards that for so long and finally see it come to fruition. Good for you!! I bet the next few months will feel even longer than that whole five years combined. Just awesome!
