Opinions on Mavic Scorpios or Giro Sica?

I'm looking at getting a pair of mountain bike shoes and am leaning towards either the Giro Sica or the Mavic Scorpios. I've not been able to find the Scorpios to try on in person, only the Sicas which I do like. I'm not sure how the sizing works with the Scorpios and am a little leery of buying them online without trying the sizes first.

I've found some positive reviews here on TE for the Scorpios but I haven't really found any info or reviews on the Sicas. Anyone try these and have feedback? I'm a beginner looking to finally get actual shoes and to begin the rite-of-passage of clipping in (eek). At this point, I don't think having a carbon sole or not will make much difference to me. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I have the Scorpios and really like them! I do not like that they only come in white, but they are a good shoe. Mavic sizing is more like European sizing - they fit my narrow heel and wider toe box fine. I should have gone one size up however, they are just a bit small for my feet.

If you like the Giro Sica and they fit...being able to try something on is a great advantage!

Thank you, Catrin! I called a local store that carried Mavic but they only have the road bike shoes. I'll probably give the Giros a try then - I thought the 2013 version of the Scorpios look pretty nice since they're black and white instead of just white but I'm just not comfortable with buying expensive shoes without trying them on first. Now to psych myself up to begin learning how to clip in and out...

Shoes are hard to decide upon, at least they are for me. Glad to hear the 2013 version are not pure white like my 2011 shoes If you want to try the Scorpios, then perhaps you can find an online source with a good return policy?
