How to use/waste valuable vacation/day off

In line sort of with the sequestrestration, but not losing wages, money, is earned vacation/time off and not using it well..

At least not for this Friday. Then again in 3 wks. We have several work benefits. One of them is work longer days and get every 3rd Friday off (or around that work day).
I'm abit cheesed off that I won't be able to do something uber special with my earned day off. Most exciting thing is get my hair cut, go to bakery that normally is not open by the time I finish work and do a bit of cycling of course.

Maybe I'll do some art.... I'm trying to change my attitude. (Even though I already have some art filled canvasses piling up at home.)

I'm putting off bringing in the electrician, since am holding out to understanding that strange power breaker in my panel...

One of the reasons why I decided not to choose another option, which was work even longer days and get every Monday off (4 work day but get paid in full), was that I wasn't sure I could really use every single Monday off well. Then the psychological aspect of working a very long day, turns me off right now. I don't have a long, complex work commute, etc.

We also have the option of 1 telework day --work at home. And there are strict rules on this plus assessment of one's home computer set up (photos required) for ergonomics, Internet access, etc. But my job does not currently lend itself well to working from home each time when I have to meet with people, work with them directly.

I DO have hobbies, passions as mentioned earlier.

You got some good responses the last few times you posted similar questions: here and here.

Sounds like spontaneity is not your strong suit.

I don't understand a particular switch and neither does my partner who looked into the matter after he did some simple testing. I wore my watch to sleep because my clock doesn't work --it's a plug-in.

Blueberry, probably sounds like I got alot more freedom to do whatever with my schedule: I don't have children. But it's doing stuff that doesn't cost money during a time of year where the weather in our area is not that wonderful. (At least it's not endless rain.) I save up money for plane fares, etc. to see family in other parts of Canada. I fly out several times annually, we take short bike touring trips, etc.

Sigh. And I've asked the question before.

Once, another employee said to me re vacation: "So you'll go out to the mall?" I was momentarily flabbergasted. I don't consider that joyful. But sure, some others love shopping as a hobby. I have a mortgage to pay.

Home is only 3 yrs. old. Yea, well where I am there are more highrise buildings going up and this clearly will stress infrastructure systems, including the electrical power distribution system. Dearie has complained enough about being where we are...more frequent brown-outs than necessary.

Can you just chill out and enjoy some free time? I'd be thrilled with having "extra" vacation days and I appreciate every minute of nothing to do and having opportunity to do something unplanned.

Me too. The only way I'd consider a free day wasted was if I'd spent it sitting in a car.
