    ISO a super-vented helmet with a visor

I do not deal well with the heat, so I need a massively vented helmet. I also would like a visor on the helmet, to help keep the sun off my face. Even with SPF 70 sunscreen, I'm still seeing sun damage on my cheeks after I ride.

I have an old Giro Pneumo helmet with a removeable visor that I'm currently trying to replace. But no one seems to make super-vented road helmets with visors anymore.

I found one at the LBS -- a Louis Garneau Quartz -- but the plastic that holds the dial for adjusting the fit came apart when I went to put the helmet on. I can snap it back together, but I'm worried that it will come apart often, since I saw another helmet at the LBS that was completely missing the adjusting piece, like it had fallen off and gotten lost.

I'll wear a mountain bike helmet if it has enough vents.

    Any ideas???? Thanks!!!!

Can't speak from experience, but I'm pretty sure Specialized helmets are identical except for the visor and graphics in road and mountain versions. My Echelon road helmet has visor holes in the shell, but it isn't SUPER vented. It's been plenty durable and I like the dial adjuster. Their S3 MT might meet your needs, if it fits?

You know, I think CE-certified helmets have to be independently tested - which IMO is the main reason to opt for Snell certification rather than US CPSC only - but I can't for the life of me find the standard. I found the number ... EN 1078 ... but not the standard itself. Does anybody know?

    Awesome. Thanks very much.

I just went to an LBS that carries Specialized and ordered an S3. I prefer a white/light-colored helmet, and they didn't have a small white one in stock. I tried it on in black/red and it seemed to fit well, and had plenty of large holes. I was actually surprised that the small fit -- my Giros have always been mediums.

I actually like to have two helmets, so if I decide I don't love the S3 I will look into Rudy Project for the second new one.

Well, it looks like we have a winner. The Bell Volt. It fits well, has good vents and it has nice visor.

It got the red and white one. If I still like it after riding in it for a while, I'll get another in silver/white.

As discussed in another thread, the Specialized S3 didn't fit my head right. I would have looked into Rudy Project, but there are no stores near here that carry them and I wanted to be able to try the helmet on if possible rather than doing mail order.

I've been wearing that helmet for years. Although I don't use the visor, it is well ventilated enough to keep my sweaty little head cool.
