Wasp in mouth!!!

So my hubby is out riding yesterday and a wasp/hornet (not sure,happened to fast) goes flying into his mouth and as he is spitting it out it bites/stings him on the inside of his lip. It is all swollen today.
What have you encountered riding?

I had the same thing happen with a bee. I was descending, pretty fast, and a bee flew in my mouth. I spat it out, but the singer was still lodged inside my cheek. I had to pull over and pull it out. By the time I got home, my face was hideously swollen. After a day or so, it was even worse, so I went to the doctor and was put on steroids for a week.

Bumblebee found its way under my shirt, didn't find its way out. Three stings before I squashed it while removing it.

OMG! I always wonder what would happen if I swallow either a bee, wasp or one of those big black flying insects. Do they go straight to your throat? I'm always afraid I will choke with one of the big ones.

Bees and wasps (knock wood) usually avoid me. I do spend a lot of time spitting out various flying insects, and last week I had to dig a load of them out of my cleavage...

My hubby said it was a big one and the wierd thing was he could it's legs thrashing around in his mouth! Ahhhhhhh

This is seriously a case of too much information.

When I started reading this thread I was laughing but then I thought "what if......."

Now thinking if I can dangle fly papers clipped to my nostrils to avoid any insect popping into my mouth.

Spring near the Mississippi River means that my last couple of evening rides have involved plowing through storms of gnats, head down, mouth firmly closed, and STILL coming home with the things in my ears and nose and hair and cleavage and squished all over my sweaty skin.

On Antelope Island there are stingy gnats that my ears and neck when we stop but not while riding. It really cuts down on the rest stop time.

ah yes, we call that being human fly paper.

I had a bee get into my cleavage ( that will teach me to ride with my jersey unzipped a little) crawl into my bra cup and bite me right on the nipple. I took an interesting off route detour through the long grass while trying to get the stupid thing out of my bra, the spent another half hour with the last icecube from a friends drink bottle strategically tucked while I pulled grass from the tires, crank, derailleur etc. Hurt like the dickens for a couple of days and swoll up a bit but at least the bee died!

Don't want to repeat that again!

I had the same thing happen. I was able to stop and get ice on my lip pretty quickly so I had little swelling.

What do wasps find so appealing about the human mouth?
