I had a fluid trainer that I used almost daily for a few years. It was a Performance Bike brand (travel trac?). Anyway, it ended up leaking fluid, but otherwise, was a decent value given the fact that it got a lot of wear & tear.
Recently--based on recommendations here, I treated myself to a Cyclops Magneto. I'm completely satisfied and like this trainer much more than my fluid. It provides a more challenging workout (gets progressively difficult as you pedal faster which I didn't notice much w/my fluid, smoother ride, etc.). That said, the fluid trainer I had was a "bargain," not a brand name, so that probably accounts for the difference in trainer performance.

I have a 1UP trainer that I purchased from www.1upusa.com. It is not a fluid trainer but very smooth and very well built. It weighs 16 lbs and folds up so you can store it away during the outdoor riding season. There is a 60 day return policy (1up pays the to and from shipping cost) so you can see how you like it.
Thanks for the input!
Hi,
I just got a KurtKinetic fluid trainer a few months ago. then I got hooked into their training vids, VHS is half the cost of DVDs and there are all different difficulty levels. They're pretty fun if you can't get out of doors. Titles like "no mercy"...
...this trainer has adjustable resistance and is extremely quiet. I think its probably the best trainer out there, as I did quite a bit of research reading this review and that one, and all were positive. new its almost 300, but on ebay I got one a year old for half that amount. Supposed to be guaranteed against leaking, and so far so good. Its raining and really windy here today, and this kind of weather is great to take advantage of a good trainer. I think I could watch TV or read, this trainer is so quiet. its my second trainer, the last one was the magnetic resistance type, and it was really noisy. It did the job, but that was about it.
Hi. I have a CycleOps that I've used for a couple of seasons now. It's great & I like the dvd's... Riding inside is always the last resort for any of us, I know, but I'd recommend this one...
I guess it's like anything, you have to do research and try a couple out at your lbs...
good luck![]()
