    We're such enablers...

Did a short video during tonite's 10 miler. DS did 6 miles on his first ride, 8 on his second, and tonight wanted to top his longest self-pedaled ride by another 2. We stopped 4 miles in to wander around the oldest cemetery in our town (there are Native American people buried there, as well as early settlers who were born in the early 1800s. Apparently there are older graves than that, though some are not marked and many of the old headstones are no longer readable).

    My kid is a nut.

It's funny. After his first ride he was still pretty nervous about the new bike. His previous bike was a tank-like BMX bike that had been his dad's as a kid. Very stable, very slow. I know how scary that first drop-bar bike is...the handling is always so much more "twitchy."

By his second ride he had gained a lot of confidence and finished that ride hollering "I love this bike!" Tonight he tackled a grassy hill in our neighborhood and was bombing through piles of leaves.

    We've created a monster!

It did! As a result we ended up ordering this saddle that I found on Amazon for <$30, including shipping. It's similar in shape and size to the saddle that came on his bike, but with a cut-out. On Ritchey's site they even show it as a saddle designed specifically for cyclocross. It's only 131mm wide and not as long as the Jett. Perfect for his skinny little butt.

Everything looks like it worked out. Has he tried out his new seat?
