It's my birthday, I'll bike if I want to

Fifty seven years old today so I rode fifty seven miles.

One year ago I couldn't have gone five miles.

    Best birthday present ever.

Sometimes I am still a bit surprised that I lost a bunch of weight and started riding and riding some more. Where did that come from? I still think of myself as the nerdie girl picked last for teams in gym class. Or, the old lady in beige nylon clothes carrying binoculars, a field guide, and a scope and talking about alternate plumage.

Yes, I highly recommend the birthday ride, if you are in a place where the weather allows. It also means the day after the birthday is a pleasant rest day. I went for a walk in the neighboring state park, saw a Green Kingfisher and a Belted Kingfisher. Came home and starting reading Sue Grafton's "V is for Vengeance."

    And skipped cake.
