So I completed my first 50 miler!

And I am happy as a pig in muck!

I signed up for my first "challenge" ride a few months ago after not being on a bike for at least 20 years as it seemed like a good idea at the time I decided to use my partners roadie instead of my mountain bike for it as im currently battling shingles I have to say it was a brilliant day and even though I went out with the intentions of just completing it I found myself pushing all boundaries I had previously set for myself!

This cycling thing is rather fun and I feel I may be further out of pocket after feeling the difference between the road bike and the mountain bike. oops!!

    Anyway thought I'd share

Good for you! 50 miles is a long way (at least for me-I've never done it). What challenged you to get back on your bike after 20 years?

Thanks lots of reasons really. After losing half my body weight over the last 2 years I needed to get fit again and cycling seemed the thing to do it (at my pace) Im not one for the gym or the likes so it was the best option. A few of my friends had signed up for the challenge ride and I seen it as an opportunity to set myself yet another goal granted I only had ever done 18 miles max with an average of 10mph till sunday so it was going to be a challenge alright! But I did better than I ever thought possible 50 miles in 4hrs and 11mins with an average of 11.5mph over the moon!

Oh how exciting! I, too, have lost almost half my body weight. Went from 248 to 132 lbs. with diet and exercise (Weight Watchers), although I embrace the gym. Nice job and keep up the good work.

Nice! Congratulations on the ride. I just did my first 50 last weekend too. I am very impressed that you did 50 after a prior longest ride of 18. Heck, maybe we can do metric centuries!

I bet the cycling helps you maintain your weight loss.

Congratulations! Feels great, doesn't it? After this, you'll just keep going further and further...
