    Muscle confusion workouts

Has anyone successfully integrated P90X or Insanity workouts with their cycling? I just got the Supreme 90 system and looking for advice for doing that and continuing with my bike training.

    Thanks.

I don't own the workout - DvDs you mentioned - but I could imagine that they are comparable to the Making the cut/Ripped in 30 workouts I regularly do, because the exercises sound very similar. They are based on a mixture of strength and cardio training while keeping the intensity high and the heart rate up.

I really notice a difference in my biking and running since I do regular strength training. I was so impressed with the results that I am cutting back on pure cardio workouts like running to get more days of strength training into my schedule than I thought I would in the beginning.

What are your goals? For body building, you'd be better off with an old fashioned program. For burning calories & adding a modest amount of muscle, those would work. You would be adding endurance type of muscle (slow twitch fibers) and that would be beneficial for cycling.

My only problem is that people need to be really careful about their form during these types of workouts. As you get fatigued, form usually gets bad. That is when you get hurt. I've watched these boot camp style workouts at my gym & towards the end of the class, it gets pretty bad.

There is some research that says high intensity resistance training burns fat better. Of course, research is usually performed on untrained college age men because (1) they are available and (2) they need the money.
To train a dog, you must be more interesting than dirt.

    Jef09,

I am a Beachbody Coach and I have finished Insanity, repeating month 2 twice. I also have completed P90X. I did both while cycling this summer.

I think that they work well together. Insanity will definately help your cardio performance, while giving you minor strength gains in your upper body (this surprised me with no weights in the work outs - but there are TONS of push ups, V push-ups, etc.)

As long as you listen to your body, and make sure you are giving it recovery time, you should be fine.
