    The Disconnect

    Brain wants to ride.
    Body does not.
    Frustrating.

I'll stop attempting to write haiku now. It's a nice day, if overcast, and my brain would love to get out there. My body...not so much. I think it's still unhappy over not getting quite enough food yesterday and not quite enough sleep last night. The latter usually isn't a problem. The combination, however...
At least I don't leave slime trails.

Sometimes, you gotta listen to your body. If you're fatigued--be it from food or sleep deprivation--get the tank refilled before heading out again.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

Many moons ago, I had a military friend tell me you can go without food, or you can go without sleep, but never both.

I can ride tired. I cannot ride hungry.

Both, forget about it! There's always tomorrow.

I feell the same way... Had serious back pain after returning from the last ride and felt better today, plus the lovely weather today, so decided to just go for a light ride at the local trail instead of going up to where we normally ride.

During the week it surely could not be busy (reason I avoid this trail-- too stressful), so I talked myself into it, but still felt lousy on the bike and baled after just 8 miles. The wind was kicking up and most on the first four miles were directly into a 13-15mph headwind. I managed to crawl along at 12mph. Coming back in it felt like a weight was lifted and we cruised back to the car with the tailwind.

    Hoping you feel better!

Feeling the same way today. I'm training for a 3 day mtn bike tour in Sept. and was planning to do a 1 hr ride with intervals today. We got back from the mtns yesterday afternoon and had to spruce up the house for an overnight guest. He didn't leave until after 9 this morning and I hadn't even begun to get ready to ride. By 10 it was 83 degrees and getting hotter so I punted on the ride.

If it hadn't gotten hot so quickly I could have used a good recovery ride today. The US Pro Tour from Steamboat to Breckinridge includes Heeney Road and Swan Mtn road in Summit County. Last Thursday we rode the Heeney road out and back, 22 miles. Sat's ride was around Dillon Reservoir, Swan Mtn road, (we went up the downhill section of the Pro tour) on to Keystone and then a 5.5 mile climb up to the town of Montezuma then back around Dillon Reservoir back to Frisco. Montezuma Road climbs 900 ft in the 5.5 miles to Montezuma. Don't know how much actual climbing we did, estimated 2,500 to 3,000. Started at 9,100 ft, top of Swan Mtn around 9,500 and Montezuma is 10,300.

Since I'm also getting ready for ski season I'm keeping cool today and doing weight and anaerobic training. Recovery ride will be tomorrow.

Hope you feel better and maybe a nice walk or hike would be the answer.
