Fit on Men's jerseys for us chicks?

Was browsing Amazon, found some fun jerseys but they're all in the MEN'S side (I buy from TE all the time, but when it comes to fun the women's selection is still a bit behind). Has anyone here bought men's jerseys? Did you take them in? I'm wondering if I can just order a small, then break out the old sewing machine and add some feminine lines to them. I barely fill an A cup, so chest size isn't an issue...

For me the biggest problem with men's jerseys is how they fit through the hips--and I don't have large hips (though my butt is definitely on the JLo side of things). They are WAY too small, especially if they have elastic at the bottom. If I buy them to fit my bottom, then they are baggy everywhere else.

Thanks Kirsten! I decided to try the New England one, it was a) cheapest and b) eligible for free returns and c) the only small! So we'll see what happens. Crossing fingers. So many of my current jerseys were clearance sale items and are just too thin, have to wear something under them. Once I bought your "reject" jerseys I saw what I had been doing was allll wrong! What I get for being a pennypinch...

I had some success modifying a men's small jersey to fit me for a team ride I did a few years back. I was the only female, so they weren't exactly going to order a women's jersey for just me (it motivated me to recruit enough woman to the team the following year so that we could order a woman's cut!). I basically just removed the elastic from the bottom (and re-hemmed it), shortened the sleeves (they reached my elbows if I didn't!) and tucked the waist just a tad. I really didn't need to to much to the waist though because once I'd removed the hem elastic, the elastic at the top of the pockets just kind of naturally created a waist with the rest of the jersey for me. It worked out pretty well, if I do say so myself. If I didn't dislike the color/graphic of the jersey, I'd have continued wearing it after the ride was over because the fit turned out well.

Got the New England jersey today! Sleeves definitely need to be a little shorter (yep, hitting the elbows!), and I may take it in a little at the waist. Undecided on the bottom elastic yet, it may hit just about right, but it's tighter than any jersey elastic I've ever come across.

GLC... could you dye it? I've considered dying some of mine, I have two sleeveless jerseys that have a lot of white in them, and it's just distracting when it's whiter where my sports bra goes (there's a third short-sleeve jersey that I just... don't like the shade of blue - can you tell I get a lot of my jerseys online?).

Dye colors have come a long way in recent years, I was pretty impressed at the selection last time I was at a hobby store. The accent colors on those 2 jerseys are teal blue, not the right shade to match my bike, so I'm considering going royal blue. The parts that are blue already should still offer some darker hues for interest. I think.
