No bike today, nor likely tomorrow. I cannot believe how hot it is. Simply cannot. When I stepped out after work I was just hit in the face with it. Nearly took my breath away. Weather guy says it feels like 112.

I saw 113 for the heat index--so it feels like Arizona out there, without the benefit of evaporative cooling. I went out to get the mail and felt like I was in an oven. It's brutal. No riding for me for the next few days. Hopefully this weekend's a little cooler...
At least I don't leave slime trails.

It isn't that high here, only mid 90's but the humidity is a killer. I am going to get up before it is light out and try A short ride in the wee hours of the morning tomorrow.

I'm doing lots of work in the early days this week, in the hopes that I'll have more outside time at the end of the week with the (slightly) cooler weather.
Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...
We got up to 63 degrees today.
Woohooo.
I'm sitting here in a wool shirt and thick sweater and sweatpants. I'm so tired of being COLD.

the one day it got hot like that (2 years ago?) I rode to work and back. 4 miles each way, very exciting, it was 104 when I got home. maybe you should do short rides?

WOW- you guys are sweltering. We normally have 10 days above 100 a summer. We are on day 21 at over 100- and the 10 day forecast doesn't have us any less than triple digits. For crying out loud-it was 110 on Saturday- the hottest July day in over 100 years of records. This heat is insane. I rode at 6:30 am on Sunday, but it was 100 when I finished at 11:30. I can't go out for my long training rides in the dark at 4 am.
We're in OK, not AZ- but I think the state is confused. This extreme heat is killing me.
I'm trying to just grin and bear it. Stick it out. I've been doing my weekday rides at 5:30- just as the sun is coming up- before work. I'd rather sweat to death than die of boredom on the trainer.
Hope it cools down for ALL of us soon. Until then, I hope you can find a way to ride and not die of heat exhaustion.

Temps in the 60s are plenty warm for me. But then, I'm generally not a fan of of temps beyond the low 70s...that was one of the main reasons why I moved to Seattle in the first place.

It got up to 111 degrees - air temp - here yesterday. We played golf yesterday morning and by the time we had some lunch and got home it was already 105. Sometimes we like to squeeze in a short ride in the afternoons after golf but in this heat, forget it! It's only gotten up to 111 degrees here 10 times in the 130 years they've been keeping records. It's crazy!
I've managed to acclimate a bit to the constant 100 degree temps out here in Austin. But I find that when I tackle the hills (It is called the "hill country" for a good reason!) and really have to put some force into it, that I tend to overheat quickly. Is there anything that I can do diet-wise to help my body cope?
Ride early or ride late...We don't ride until about 6:30-7pm on weeknites and on our weekend rides we are out the door by 7-730am. You can get in an hour or two before the oppressive stuff starts. Plus, the breeze factor is increased by the speed of the bike. I haven't had much trouble with the heat this way, and I am not a person who can normally deal well with heat and humidity.![]()
