Fun with an iMac-sped-up climb video

My mother just replaced her late-2006 model iMac with a new one, so when I visited her last week she gave me the old one. It had Snow Leopard on it and she still had the disks, so I erased and reinstalled the operating system and took out the extra 2 GB of RAM that was causing lockups (this model only supports up to 3 GB). Now it runs much faster and better, so I had a little fun with the other three sufferfest climbs from last Sunday's ride that I didn't include in the video I posted here.

I already uploaded normal-speed versions of these climbs back in April and May, so I try not to show the same roads twice unless there's something different, like a conversation with another rider, or in this case a 4x speed version of the climbs.

This is Chili Hill Road, Bald Hill Road, and Baxter Grade Road, between Newcastle and Auburn in Placer County, CA.

Since iMovie doesn't mute the audio when you change the speed of the video, you get to hear me sounding like a puppy.

Well, based on the lack of response here and in other forums, I now realize the whole sped-up climb video thing was a bad idea. The only two responses I got were people saying they didn't like it. One poster said the shakiness made them want to puke.

Oh well, at least I learned how to use iMovie. I just won't make any more sped-up climb videos.

I love my iMovie. I use it all the time. I think you could have muted the volume on your video and you can do a stabilizing thingy on it as well. (that's the technical talk). Mostly just play around with it - totally addictive.

I've got a helmet camera that you totally need a dramamine to watch any footage from. I move my head around so much that it's constant motion sickness.

I haven't played with the speeding up thing or slowing down, though I've watched some tutorials on it. A couple weeks ago though, I made a trailer and that was AWESOME. That's in the new version of iMovie.

I love your climbing videos. Makes me want to go out and ride, yet too tired to do so because I feel like I climbed too!

    Thanks!

Just curious, why mute the audio? That was the funny part, me sounding like a puppy. What people didn't like was the shakiness.

I have iMovie '09, since that was in the box with Snow Leopard and iWork. I don't know how many more features iMovie '11 has.

I thought the way you said something that you didn't because you didn't think you could. I agree, that is the funny part. I will mute them when I take a snippet of video and plop it into something (like the trailer) that has music. THough sometimes I just quiet it a bit but leave it so you can still hear. One video I made has a snippet of my brother in law crossing the finish line at our Livestrong Challenge. You an hear all these cowbells in the background and one of my sisters in law screaming his name. It was too cute to mute, but those cowbells needed to be a bit quieter.

I went and got the new iMovie solely for the trailer, I have to admit. At least I'm getting my money's worth, as I've been having a ball with it. I forget what else it has that is new, but I did go look online to see before buying it. But a friend had made a video trailer and I thought it looked like so much fun. And it has been.

I see what you mean. I left the volume as is because I didn't have to balance it with a music soundtrack, and I didn't think it was too loud because it was just tire noise, gear shifting, heavy breathing, and the occasional car driving by.

Hi luv2climb, I've been watching and enjoying your YouTube riding videos. I do agree that watching the speeded-up videos can make one dizzy. I think it's fine if you're stationary and filming other cyclists.

How much recording time can you get from a Kodak Playsport (which I gather is the camera you use), using an acceptable (but not hightest) fps setting and available storage?
